Can Hollywood Invent A Super Hero?

Hancock definitely was a superhero movie lol
He may not be your every day traditional one, but he turned into one as story progressed. And they are making a seqeul, but doubt it goes past 3, if that. First one made 600M so who knows.

Chronicle wasn't really a superhero movie, more or less just a supernatural power movie, like Jumper or Push.

Blankman/Meteor Man are other example of original superhero movies but then again they werent a success, so don't expect a sequel for either lol

There's not enough money in original ideas. Too much risk to not make major money whereas copying the format and formula that works brings in the dough usually.

Right!! Where the #*%% is Incredibles 2?

Why do movie studios do this? They know the one pixar movie that people demand a sequel, and they make ******g Cars 2 :|

Best Pixar movie period

I actually liked Cars 1 too though (for what it is) but the mistake with Cars 2 is they focused on the tow truck. Didn't even bother watching it because it and just seems like the worst of all the Pixar films, ever!

We'll get another 2 sequels of Incredibles, unfortunately it might take 10 years. (ex. Toy Story)

They're called action stars... That's as close as you'll get. You're going to have a hard time competing against heroes coming from comics or anything else with a built in audience. Why bother when there's so much available material out there?

Hancock had me fooled for the first half of the movie. Then it revealed itself as a love story. Boooooooooooooooo

Good point. There's SO much material that hasn't been executed properly as well so I guess Hancock was one of those instances that proved it's hard to come up with some new material even with a leading man as strong as Smith.

I enjoyed Hancock for what it was though. Seems like those sequels will NEVER happen though and we will really have to accept it for what it is.

No. Atleast not one as adored as the classic ones

Superheroes are part of American myth, and are ingrained into our culture. Stan Lee, and the other guys who that era literally created a brand new mythology akin to that of ancient society. Its pretty phenomenal if you think about it. There is almost nobody in our demographic who doesn't know a character like Wolverine, or Superman, Captain America, Batman ect, even considering the dying nature of the print media industry.

Hell when is the last time that an original comic book hero was made?

actually a dope thread that makes you think and wonder

i'm gunna think out loud tho.....

with the resurgence of superhero movies in hollywood, this idea has definitely come about within hollywood

so why does it never go through?

i guess for one, if you just invented a comic book style super hero, everybody would nitpick at every single thing about the character and backstory whereas getting bit by a spider and being able to stick to walls and climb and shoot webs out of your hands while maintaining your physical appearance gets a pass because it's ****** spiderman! and even being named something like _______+man gets a pass but if there were any new superhero with a name like that we would think its corny. people don't nitpick at established franchises, with a new hero people will dissect it and try to find every little thing wrong with it.

in todays hollywood, you can't make a super hero movie without a super high budget, if its to be competitive with the rest of the movies. too much financial risk.

A-list producers, writers, actors, and whoever else you need to put together to create a movie won't give it a fair chance and would find it too risky. the people financing it wouldn't want to take the risks, and then the actors and people's names who are going to show up on the credits don't want to take the risk.

I think the only way to do it would be if hollywood invents their own character, but then releases it as a comic first. there's less financial risk and you get to see if it can pass the "legit" test on the market, and then if you get an established fanbase people will then give the character passes and take it seriously.

Here's an original superhero movie that could be a huge franchise.
the wife could get it.
she a freak too.
