I was in the living room the other night chillin with my mom when a spider fell from the ceiling and landed on her arm, this spider was a dark brown almost black with a bright red mark on its back, it was furry.

That looks a bit like a regular garden spider. They're pretty common and harmless,theres currently a bunch of them that have set up camp in my backyard 
. Not even mad cause they've been feasting on all the mosquito's, flies and other pests around.

They're pretty harmless. I have them all around my house. They're not as bad as black widows.
Leave the spiders, kill the eggs though. There's about 120 - 150 little spiders per egg.
