I think Jimmy and Capone just wanted to do something gangster thinking they'd help Nucky, saw the opportunity and took it. The guy gets shot at the end as Nucky takes Jimmy's words to heart when Jimmy says "You can't be half gangster anymore" or something like that. They screwed Rothstein.

I loved every second of this. At times it really felt like I was watching Goodfellas or Casino (the scene where Nucky gets called down cause Rothstein is robbing Nucky's Casino is right out of Casino almost shot-for-shot). I wish Scorsese could direct every episode. Nonetheless, this is can't miss every week for me.
