Blu-Ray: What's the difference? How much better than DVD? Is it worth buying?

Nice find I totally forgot about this. I picked up Milk recently and my copy of THe Wrestler shipped today.

Bumping this because of other dudes attempt at a new Blu-ray thread. This is 41 deep already. No need for a new one!

I typed this in another thread..... In the past month I bought 2 Chinese movies on Blu-Ray...Fatal Move and Breaking News... Hopefully i'll get Red Cliff 1and 2 next

Question : I want to buy some used blu-rays on Amazon...would the shipping be 2.98 a blu-ray even if I buy them from the same dealer? I wanted to buy 7 ofthem, but if it's going to cost 21.00 for shipping alone maybe i'm better off going to Amoeba....

When I bought my Samsung LCD several years ago, 1080p wasn't an option. Has anyone tried to play a blu-ray on a 1080i tv? Would it be worth it to get ablu-ray player now? Or will I not notice that big of a difference from my regular DVD player because my tv is only 1080i?

with the ripping part aside, i would agree that eventually, HD movies on-demand will be the way to go as opposed to being on a hard media.... butright now, i believe even the online HD movies aren't as good in quality as BD (someone please confirm).... one would guess eventually technology willimprove the quality of downloadable HD movies....

everything you said is right..

people keep saying the future is not in a disc. you know how long its gonna be till they stop doing disc?

2 questions

1. Is Blu ray quality the same as lets say HBO-HD quality?

2. Where the hell is Saving Private Ryan on blu-ray???? This is a MUST

BD > ANY feed or stream you're watching. It's just clearer, more vivid, etc.

I know almost everyone who's made the BD transition is waiting on SPR
