Black Culture Discussion Thread

granted modern life has complicated much of everything but all things being equal, granted this is almost never the case & people weigh differently certain attributes, wouldn’t most women prefer a man w/access to more resources than one w/less & don’t men prefer a certain flush, youthful look & hip to waist ratio on women…do they need to be sold this? given that these understood almost inherently men & women will both play on those to get what they want…so manipulation is always afoot but i’m not sure it’s all that much brain washing (propaganda definitely exists but i’d put that it’s own distinct category)

Idk from a man's perspective, is that REALLY what we like or is it what society told us we are supposed to like? The older I got and the more experience I got, I noticed there was a difference between what I thought I liked and what I actually liked. I dont discriminate so when I find my self checking white women...especially celebs, I ask myself do I really find this women attractive or does she just fit the societal standard of beauty so I make myself attracted?

EDIT: Related Unrelated: I also think social beauty standards are why a lot of black men go crazy of thick/curvy white women. We've been told for so long they white women are skinny then one day you in the grocery story and Emma come around the corner with 2 in the trunk and we don't know how to act.

You do realize that humans are LESS social than ever before? That’s the point we are trying to make. Times have changed, people have changed. Someone from 1600s… 1850s… 1950s… 1998… is not like a person from 2025.

Phones and social media have completely upended the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. That’s what we keep trying to highlight with you all.

People want to evolve or make adjustments with every factor of life…. Except socializing and relationships. They want relationships to stand pat as if it’s 1965… but they want everything else to be adjusted for the times.

It will never balance out.

And a lot of people are DEFINITELY brainwashed because there are a ton of people in their 30s and 40s… who act naive as if they’re in their late teens or 20s. Basic things that they should understand by the time they reach 30 and 40, that they can’t comprehend.

Growing pains and mistakes are supposed to happen in your 20s. That’s understandable. We ALL lose value as we get older. That’s common sense

I agree with everything above……EXCEPT the second to last sentence. Men GAIN value as we get older and women LOSE value. Men gain knowledge and hit their financial stride later on in life.

i would say that while celebrity & status does not tend to be as important for men generally, it still does factor…so i’m sure there is some influence being in a homogeneous or diverse societal can impact what people find attractive but i’d say attractiveness while not entirely objective is less subjective than people make it seem & men are waaaaaay more forgiving/have a broader range of what is considered attractive

men across the world from different cultures (so presumably have been exposed to different messaging & values) all tend to agree on women’s attractiveness preferring certain features generally, it doesn’t manifests the same but it is pretty solid that generally its youthful looking, softer facial features as compared to the men, a favorable hip to waist ratio, etc.

I agree with everything above……EXCEPT the second to last sentence. Men GAIN value as we get older and women LOSE value. Men gain knowledge and hit their financial stride later on in life.

while it is true that it generally takes men time to acquire much of the things that women find attractive in men as compared to what men find attractive in women but that is not quite the same thing as necessarily meaning that all men gain value as they age…

Did I say ALL or was that something you threw in there in response to me?? For example a man locked up in jail serving two life sentences never to be released doesn’t gain any value just because he’s a man, that should be obvious to everyone. However………generally speaking the vast majority of men gain value as we get older. I expect every knowledgeable black man in this thread to understand that.

Re: Leadning

Yea I wouldn't use an example of trying to help a 70 year old woman with a computer and her not buying in as her not wanting to have anything to do with learning. It's just very tough for them to access tech when they have little/no background in it.

The post get deleted? I said I would only have to show my grandmother something once and she was good, meaning she was open to learning at 70. She used it to make the church bulletin. Before that, she was copying and pasting quite literally.

That was a whole 'nother thread.

true, i worded that poorly… but even in the general sense, if we referring to the relationship dynamics, especially given that in the modern context women aren’t as necessitous for men’s resources or the wisdom of men & are valuing different things, it is not necessarily the case that men are increasing in value as they age to today’s women even if the men are objectively doing so technically

I can only speak from my experience and the women I talk to but from what I see and hear……..most women still want or look for a man with resources, college educated or at least worldly/knowlegeable and a leader. That hasn’t changed since the days of time and I don’t see that changing either.

These women that you speak of might not admit that they need a man or give the allusion that they are independent of a man but best believe push come to shove they wil gladly sign up to be with a man like I described above any day of the week twice on Sunday.

Women don’t want to be alone…..and certainly don’t want to die alone, especially modern women. Nothing worse than when these lonely women show up for the Family Thanksgiving Day Dinner empty-handed with no man yet again. Even be having Granny looking at them sideways……”Is everything okay baby??”

in theory, yea women think they want this guy but i don’t think a lot of women really know how men move, operate, and/or think in practice & really don’t consider/know what that man wants or is actually like…and many women that have experienced such men are not exactly excited about being ‘controlled’ by said man…

a lot women/people want things on their own terms & to the extent they can dictate those terms they usually aren’t pressed to change. today women might be lonely but are rarely ever ‘alone,’ much is made about how women have more close & extended relationships than men generally & as such are distracted & entertained enough w/their friends & whatever male attention they do get that locking in isn’t a priority; the average age of marriage has been getting older in most western countries & i believe it is the case that even the average of 1st child births is creeping up there too

i’d bet most of the women you talk to aren’t really going out of their way to prepare for a relationship w/said coveted man or even that willing to go out of their way to meet that man. if you look at the language most women are using & even if you would ask the women you are around candidly, they talk about partnership & being ‘equally yoked’ & wanting to experience life before being locked down/tied to a man…which if you are a man not that interested in marriage this is a good set up 😂

You fell for the bait huh? White DEFINITELY wanted the Pam Anderson/super model aesthetic back in the days.

They despised being curvy/overweight.

Once they realized that men liked curves… that’s when the Kardashians tried to mimic the sistas.

You fell for the bait :lol :lol :rollin

And the “we” needs to stop. Every black man doesn’t desire white women :lol :lol

The story of Elijah vs Ahab is as old as time itself.

As long as there are weak & lustful men (Ahabs) in power, Jezebels will be running the show.

When I see dudes virtue-signaling, pandering, and simping, it reminds me of the old saying about weak men creating hard times.

They weren't called "Baby Boomers" for nothing.

Some of the biggest simps I've ever met come from this generation, and their numbers have only grown since...until now.

The Baby Boomer generation of men ushered in second-wave feminism, which led to the destruction of the nuclear family by removing the consequences that came with poor decisions. Once the government got involved, it was over...especially for Black families.

60 years later...

Speaking of the devil. I think you missed the point. Curvy is not a new phenomenon and it damn sho wasn’t started by no Kardashians. Thats what always has been considered a “real woman”. Media would try to push the idea that skinny = beautiful….to everyone. It still happening today somehow.

Also I don’t discriminate and think anyone who says they’ve never found a person of another race attractive, they a bald faced lie. Speaking of trick of the devil, don’t think because you’re black you can’t be on some white ****.

White American women were not cool with being curvy until the Kardashian clan. They wanted to take uncle Luke to trial when they felt 2live crew was too raunchy or had women overly naked. Now it’s damn near the norm.

Serena Williams was damn bear taken to trial for wearing that catsuit in 2002.

And it IS possible to not be attracted to other races.

The Pam Anderson, baywatch aesthetic was their calling card.

Ricki Lake (talk show host) and Rosie O’Donnell use to get ridiculed for being overweight/large white women

The MODERN trend of curviness being mainstream was spawned by Kim Kardashian.

Not speaking on the same trend taking place in previous decades (because I'm not sure this has been the first/only time in history it has happened) but KK definitely made it cool for them to accept those body types.

i’d definitely read a think piece on the rise & switch up in popular culture in regards to body type; like how/why did kim k become the avatar for so many women? i’m guessing the look probably had to do with hip hop then being at peak power so the ‘video vixen’ aesthetic was more pervasive?

you can’t go in the gym these days or on socials & not see women doing hella glute focused workouts or tooting that posterior in the direction of cameras/mirrors, its 50 & 60 year olds getting bbls…it’s a complete 180, everyone is obsessed 😮‍💨🤣

is this too semantic of argument to say that you can find someone attractive but not necessarily be attracted? not sure that attraction is a choice, it is an involuntary, primal thing mostly…

even tho most people are generally more attracted to folk that look like them/of similar phenotype and not generally attracted to others & don’t really think about it, in the right situation w/a relatively objectively attractive person from a different ethnic background most are going to fold 😂

I would argue it was Jlo.

Once Affleck got on that, white America took notice. White girls wanted to be that

Between the TWO….I would say it was moreso The Kardashians opposed JLO. The Kardashians were more the early 00’s and JLo is more of the late 90’s.

Also JLo would just been seen randomly at certain appearances where as The Kardashians were literally on TV every week with their family show that was doing huge numbers. The Kardashians reached a bigger audience.
