Black Culture Discussion Thread

I think a lot of young black boys thing that's how they're supposed to be because they are black. Tbh, these younger generations are leaning into stereotypes in general, across the board. It looks like a lack of a real sense of self and or direction.

Re: Promoting family units

Be careful before they call what you are preaching right-wing talking points.

But I agree with you man. The broken families do nothing but further widen that gap.

I wish I had a fix but I can't really see anything changing.
I haven’t seen too many ppl say that better families is a right wing thing, I think most folks would agree that’s a plus…It’s just not a magic bullet, or the only solution like some try to push …Ppl gotta step out in the world away from the family, and now you got the internet/social media in the mix too so it makes it harder to say “just have both parents at home and everything will be ok”

Broken families or not, it should start with the parents/caretakers just being better Individually across the board

Because there IS societal pressure for black boys to go to that darkside (or pretend to go there).

With how much it happens, how can you honestly deny that pressure exists?

Again… as I said before… bums, busters and broke dudes…literally bleeding the block, broke as hell with no money, and not a pot to piss in…

To each their own I guess. For every kingpin in the hood, there’s 300 hundred or more broke dudes who never leave the area, and don’t even know about the finer things in life… again, I know we are ALL different… I just said “I” never, and will never understand. I know we are all different at the end of the day.

I do not care about the opinions of dudes who never cross the tracks, or buy most of their toiletries from corner store, instead of target. That’s all I’m saying :lol :lol

Yup it won’t change until those things from the hood/trenches stop being glorified…A dude like Ja grew up seeing rappers/celebs act a certain way and it stuck with him so when he got his chance to behave the same he did just that

Some ppl don’t let the stereotypes and images stick with them, and some do…That’s all it is

It’s not even specifically a Black thing, but men/boys in general feel pressure to at least appear to be tough and do wildly stupid **** because of that. It’s a tale as old as time.

That doesnt mean Ja isn’t stupid (he is), but it’s really not all that surprising.
It starts young where being smart or real serious about stuff makes you a nerd and bullied…But doing stupid stuff is funny or makes you cool

The bs holds more weight than what is supposed to be “good”…Society in general right now is a clear example of this

As long as it is making folks $, it will never stop being glorified.
Can't see this ever stopping if I'm being honest.

It's by design we know.

Right. Even successful black business men of a certain age try to present themselves more like rappers. Somebody is going to have to make it really cool to rock a polo.

Funny thing is 20 years ago a RAPPER had us wearing button ups and polls in the club.
I think thats where we got the idea you're supposed to retire from the streets at some point. Record execs are getting these kids in and out of the paint before they can even think about "retiring".

I feel like getting into how Black men dress is a slippery slope though because there’s a whole ‘nother group of dudes who think they’re superior because they put on J. crew fits to hit the grocery store :lol

Again, I don’t understand why WE care about what them folks wear secondly, I just want cats to not be around me with dirty draws showing. I don’t particularly care what brand of clothing you have on. Whether designer or Lee jeans…. It’s baffling.

We aren’t living in a third world country. Proudly having bad hygiene, pants hanging down to the floor… man that’s a choice

Because a street cat and an AVP of a company are going to dress differently. 9 times out of 10, the street cat is putting on a costume.

Dressing has become more casual in general on all levels …The tech CEO look is like the standard now for most folks running ****
