Black Culture Discussion Thread

Great watch on Billie Holiday if you have the time. I didn't know anything about her outside the name, but this made me appreciate her a lot :pimp:

Man really quoted an obviously fake Adolf Hitler quote w/ bad punctuation & a typo at the very beginning of the 2nd paragraph. Dude even had the nerve to use a highlighter. I would fire is dumbass.:rofl:. Wth?

I care nothing for what most of these athletes have to say. Just retweet something you think is meaningful and shut the **** up!

The fact that he backtracked so quickly on whatever the **** he posted kind of shows he didn't stand by whatever message he was trying to get across.

He’s had several absolutely wonderful scenes that will stand the test of time for conscious Black folk, and I am hoping that it has inspired a different show to do something for our other Black Gods in the near future. His contributions to that show will be sorely missed.

There is a famous clip of Vivian getting hit in the mouth by a White cop. He was trying to get into one of the courthouses in the south, registering people to vote.He was bloodied, and while bleeding from the mouth he asked the cop why he did such a thing. That taught me a very valuable lesson about being non violent. It, is not for me.

Edit: here it is.

R.I.P. John Lewis, w/o him we wouldn't have a lot if not most of what we do now. Nothing but love & appreciation for homie.

Do you believe the person you marry is a political statement?

No, I've known my wife since I was 12 and she was 10 (we didn't start dating until I was in my late twenties though). Our marriage has nothing to do with political statements or a belief that I'm "trading up".

I do think that there are some black men who consciously and purposefully choose white partners as a symbol that they've made it because they have access to white women.

I hear what you are saying but I think you are diminishing the idea of politics being present in every aspect of life.

But respect.

Go on...

Edit: I'm not trying to derail this thread but I'd like to continue this conversation

I originally said move on because I wasn't sure how open you would be to the conversation seeing you have a white wife.

Usually, these convos turn into those with non-black wives getting defensive.

But if you are open to a convo about it, cool.

We can start here.

Thoughts on what he is saying about it being a political statement.

Please don't bring up anything about his school, comments about LGBTQ, etc.
