Black Culture Discussion Thread

It's just creepy like a episode of Black mirror or get out.

Literally akin to keeping a person alive just to test stuff and see what happens.

We love to think the medical establishment is a safe clean space for intellectual research.

What we forget is how brutal discovery of the human is.

Before all this technology, Western medical establishment had a very barbaric approach.

A constant flow of dead bodies were needed for research. All kinda of illegall experiments we're done to ppl wot out there consent. Infecting blacks with stds and sending g them back to their communities just to see what happens.

Hell look at what's going on now with the drinking water in alot of black communities.

These folks don't have your best interest at all.

At one point it was a consensus on blacks not being able to feel pain so it was okay to torture and experiment on them.
That's the past.
Think about what goes on now?

The whole modern era built off a black woman when you think of it. We are all eating and loving off her body.
Makes me thinks about communion.
Black folks symbolicly eating a dead white mans flesh for eternal life while the whole world surviving off a black womans actual flesh.
Real life vampires.

to the extent any of those things disregards (black) bodies & lives, i'd agree...and the potential portents of the way this data could be used is negatively should be top of mind but there is also so much potential to improve many lives; how we balance the benefits & threats of all this stuff definitely continues to be major question going forward...

They love broadcasting these coooning minstrel shows

it gotta be that? why can't they just be genuinely expressing themselves??

i find this topic interesting as i would always hear these theories of this type thing come up in various discussions about demographics (this isn't really new information as it as been projected that the us will become a majority-minority country for a long minute now) and while the presenter is basically right in attributing 'feminism' (or more broadly, women having more control over their lives & choices from contraception to employment to whom the marry) the conspiratorial tone is so wild to me...replacement fertility rates are generally about economics & opportunity, i don't know how people can't implicitly understand how economics alters how people look at reproduction in the context of a relatively dynamic economy? fact is as countries become more 'developed' birth rates tend to drop. this is a phenomenon that can be seen across the industrialized world, with few exceptions and notable points in 'history' where events have either inflated or depressed population growth...

there are many rational reasons for this that do not require a plot that conspires to depress birth rates for non-white women, such as lower infant & child mortality rates leading to people having less children, awareness & availability of methods of contraception, negative attitudes about future prospects (economically & socially), the rising cost of childcare, all contribute to reasons people aren't having as many kids, or delay starting having children to later in life.

that the presenter makes a point of saying that black women in 12 states have a birth rate above replacement, simple math would mean that still in 38 states (or 39-40 if pr & the virgin islands are included) it is not above replacement level; nor does he go into for which states it is above replacement level, by how much, or why this really matters...it is an incomplete metric

Watched BlackKKlansman and Blind Spotting last week. Two of the better movies I've seen in my lifetime, no exaggeration. Top 20 def, might crack Top 10 if I sat down and thought about it.
Gonna take some time to put em both on and watch with my wife and son and discuss some things

I encourage, if you haven't, to check out Dr Curry. He specializes in critical race theory and Africana philosophy, black male studies and white supremacy in general. Brilliant man. Check him out.

I read Dr. Curry's book "The Man-Not". It was a perspective shifting book that tries to advance the conversation of how we see black men and black boys. I highly recommend it man.

Man is brilliant. I have a long list of books I need to read but his book is in there for sure.

Cool .I didn't know he had another book. Familiar with the White Man's Burden topic. I'm curious what he means by Another White Man's Burden.

He basically discusses colonialism and the philosophy of Josiah Royce's views on race. He breaks down and critiques the entire premise on a philosophical basis.

You cannot fix this system from the outside, you cannot fix this sexist, racist system from within. It must implode first, before any conversation about the future begins. Right now the Trump administration is doing exactly that in the US, exposing how white privilege works, and then for who. The government shut down proves that the white patriarchal structure that is in power, does not even care for its own. This thing will destroy itself from within. Anyone of color who tries to save it, is a damned fool.
