Got it, most of the websites I was looking at were saying that Victoria Island has a lot of expats, so it made me not want to stay in that area that much, but it sounds like it still has a "real" Nigerian feel to it. I usually avoid areas known for expats, cause they're usually full of drunk Aussies and English folk
I'm definitely trying to check out the best non-touristy food spots and local markets. Planning on checking out some museums and art galleries too
i went for the 1st time this past summer, so i had my camera (with a fairly large lens) with me just about everywhere i went which upped my ‘hey i’m not from here’ quotient by some factor of 10 so i’m far from an authority on the matter, my understanding is that area is basically where the investment/money is...also was told many times by strangers & family alike, that december is the popular time for many folk from abroad to visit family...
i feel that when traveling the experience is always ‘real,’ just may not be the one you expect/want...being that you have been to places like india & indonesia, you prolly are somewhat familiar with the (sometimes extreme) disparity of those places when it comes to things such as traffic density and timing, tourist accommodations, roads, housing, etc. and the allowance that one has to make for these things.
however you decide to swing it, locals will be able to advise on the things you’re interested in
