Just ******** to take your attention away from the fact many of the blacks enslaved were already here living on this continent, and to further the perception of blacks as just slaves and less than.

ethnocentrism, tribalism, or "racism" as practiced on an individual to individual level has always & will continue to exist in one way or another, but the institution of slavery and what it has begot has pretty much been an economic one and the justification of treating another human being as less than was inferiority; the trans atlantic slave trade ushered in a wholly different type of slavery and one that the distinction was black & white (#punlife) in a way that maybe was not as clear in previous incarnations. it is a rationale that makes some sense from a historical perspective; so it isn't that capitalism causes racism per se, it is more complicated than that, but it does make for a starting point...from the linked page:

I wouldn't say racism was solely a product of the slave trade, but that there is some proof to the claim that the Slave Trade introduced systematic racism

What kills me is people thinking that because hip hop is popular and mainstream that racism is a thing of the past. These culture vultures are something else

They're focused. Very simple. Black leaders trying to play savior to everyone. American black leadership isn't very pragmatic.

They need to take note from Buhari in Nigeria. The most frugal and pragmatic man in power at the moment.

Most of the money made from entertainment, movies and music is paid for by white consumers. Removing our money wouldn't do much. But I understand what you mean.
White America pays these artists to spew this nonsense. It's cool music to a certain extent, but at the end of the day, a person from another race can take the venom out of these lyrics and paint the entire black society with it.

My problem is, I hate that our value as black people is either defined by entertainment (actors, comedians and athletes) or by poverty and destruction.

How about we start shaming people within our community and in the public eye and call them out on their BS. Like how crackheads were made fun off in the 80s and 90s and it was no longer a cool thing so people tryed not to be crackheads for fear of being stigmatized

Our problem is, is that we make fun of everyone in our community and don't try to help because it's not "my problem" And w/ social media, it's even worse. I've seen so many memes and videos and statuses, etc making fun of other people that look like us and sharing it for the rest of the world to join in. I don't see any other race doing it to the magnitude that we do it, that does damage too. Now one can say it's all in good fun, but is it really when you further degrade yourself and your race? I guess because you're doing it then it's coo so long as the white man/woman doesn't do it. Idiotic in my opinion.

And not just those people, the high and mighty "woke" people as well. Spend more time talking about how people are sleep and chastising them for being such according to their definitions instead of trying to enlighten people w/ an open mind.

Honestly I don't I know enough Latinos, and next to no Asians. Doesn't help that I've been in Pittsburgh for the last 11 years and there's not that much diversity here outside of the college campuses...

I went to Atlanta to scope it out back in 2009 because I heard the same thing. From the weekend I was there, I've seen people that look like me w/ nice material things, but more than that, people that at least looked important going in and out of SunTrust, I had a feeling it was real
