Black Culture Discussion Thread

Nothing is going to justify the action of the nail techs, but that said you don't walk out on services rendered. You pay and never return. You let your folks know about the ****** work. But you pay for the services rendered.

Bullshiggity
Like I said before, cut a bald spot into my head after I've worked hard to get these waves and see if you get paid.
Black people better stop protesting and start handing out butt whoopings with those videos we film along with supporting black owned businesses.

I don’t know about all that

I ain’t paying full price
If my barber puts a hole in the middle of my waves

There has been upteen videos over the last 2 years of black women gettin their rear-ends tossed up and down the isle's of these Asian owned nail places they like to frequent, yet they show right back up the next day. Grab a bunch of your girlfriends, pool your money together, rent a store front spot, buy a few cases of nail polish wholesale and open up your own nail shop. Stop running to these folks who take your money back to their communities and leave you with lumps and bruises.

At this point man, it just gets tiring of knowing the answers to some situations and yet we dont implement it. A remedy like this is so ******* obvious, I just dont understand why we take so long to figure it out and get **** done. I dont expect black nail salons to pop up in mass and I'm not undermining how hard it is to open a business, but the fact that there aren't THAT many is crazy. At times, it just seems pointless to preach the same ****.

we are too complacent

i don’t think her point was that black americans are the sole definition of black culture, at least i didn’t take it that way; moreso just that black american culture is its own thing, that its origins are rooted in & of or even tied to other culture(s) is somewhat academic to that fact. i can also understand the frustration of how (on a surface level anyway) easy it is for other black peoples to assimilate into black american culture but the reverse is not generally true. obviously the influence & imminence black american culture has is an altogether different thing and flip side of that position is that it is easier to access because it is just more visible; having just come back from my first trip over to nigeria, this really stuck out to me how easily conversant people were about aspects (black) american culture. while not always deeply or ‘correctly,” it vastly trumped the little knowledge i had of theirs, even having much more access to/awareness of some nigerian culture than an average american...

while i don’t really agree with her perspective, there are parts that do make sense to me...i don’t think her an idiot and anecdotally, i feel like her viewpoint is probably closer to the mainstream opinion of black americans than an outlier; if perhaps not stated/worded with the same venom/vitriol...
Black Americans are the majority in America, so of course, others are gonna gravitate towards joining their culture. Plus many from these nations are bullied once they arrive here wether it be because of the style of the clothing which they are wearing or their accents or even the food. There are plenty of African Americans who've left the U.S and went to Africa and the Caribbean and have assimilated without any problems. Correy Todd is a prime example. She is an ignorant clueless fake woke idiot.

well, i would think there would have to be some discussion about the proper compensation, there should be a somewhat amenable way to part ways...

if i had to make an assumption about why this doesn’t happen, specifically as it relates to nail spots, it would be the low margins involved...between the generally low cost of the services, having to pay labor, & then rent, i don’t think the business model is all that attractive (there have been a few high profile looks into the culture/economics of some nail salons that make it more ‘viable’ for immigrants that would seem untenable for most americans); there are likely many entrepreneurial black women that do this for a small circle of close clients as a side hustle or for fun, but as a start up retail business i think it is much easier said than done...

i don’t dispute that many amongst the diaspora have difficulties fitting in here, or that black americans don’t have some advantages that allow them to be successful assimilating into other diaspora countries. just that generally, i think that black american culture is more pervasive & easier to access...and moreover there is a way that black immigrants maybe take advantage of/play a role in (not consciously/purposely) being played against (stereotypes of) american blacks...

Sorry the Asian businesses in black communities are there to stay. There will always be blacks quick to hand them their money for food, weave, nails.
We are the biggest consumer and they know setting up shop in black ghettos is a lucrative business. Their focus is that money even with issues like theft and confrontations with violent black folks they aren’t packing up and running at all. They keep those carryouts open 24/7 damn near..aint no holidays and vacations.
They will feed you and provide beauty supply and nail service with the money they earned from you.
What they do with that money is for the progression and prosperity of their family/communities...

Would you really hold them to an expectation of actually putting some back into the communities they propser from???
Give back turkeys to the hood?
Pass out school supplies and backpacks to the black youth that they keep their children separated from?

Only thing they giving back is a free diabetes cocktail with your order...Enjoy!

Eric Benét Says People Still Want R&B Music But Only From White People
Eric-Benet.png

Eric Benét stopped by TMZ and said today’s R&B music has been whitewashed. He shared that opinion after host Van Lathan asked him if R&B music is dying out.

“The artform that I fell in love with is not dying, it’s still there,” said Benét. “It seems like they want to hear it, but they want to hear it more if it’s not from Black people.”

“Why is it genius when they do it?” he asked. “Listen to Kenny Lattimore’s latest record and it’s like ‘Wow, that’s dope.’ But if it was a white cat that came out with that record he’d be at the Grammys. That’s always been how the music industry has been since Elvis on.”

Classic r&b isn't really pushed as a mainstream music anymore, you look at the list and it's really hip hop. When they do choose to put it at the forefront it's from the likes of Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande etc. That Boo'd up joint is like the exception. Outside of mainstream it lives on though.
