Best program to remove viruses and spyware?

if you are talking about automatic program to run scans.. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would be the best. Easy to use and user friendly.

AVG Free but I have also heard that Kaspersky is good.

I use Avg Free with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Ccleaner and my computer hasn't had anything wrong with it in a looong time.

AVG is good but it slows the computer down IMO and based on experience.. I don't use any anti-virus at all, just malwarebytes which is more of a malwareremoval rather than a protection.

, good suggestion....

I have AVG and Advanced System Care. I put Avast on my wife's computer w/ CC Cleaner. We've had no problems. *knocks on wood.

I clicked a Youtube video and got a serious virus recently. That sucked. System Restore took care of it. Usually that will take care of things. Ifit's worse, do an Ad-Aware scan in Safe Mode and go through the individual registry keys and delete the bad files. It's time consuming, but it's100% effective.

Are you sure it was a genuine "Youtube video" link? Perhaps you clicked a link to a phishing website of sorts. Using System Restore toremove one virus (supposedly from Youtube) is completely OD'ing it. Why lose all of your files (or go through the hassle of backing them up) when you cansimply use a trustworthy anti-virus program to remove the said virus? Moreover, recommending individuals on Niketalk (or the vast majority of other onlineforums for that matter) to edit their registry is a terrible idea. Registry editing isn't common knowledge, and if it's done improperly, the resultscan ruin one's computer.

Edit: OP, I recommend you use BitDefender as your anti-virus, and a "paid" version of Malewarebytes'Anti-Malware for malware protection/removal.

^^ co sign on this one, if you accidentally delete a necessary registry key, your computer is done.. But if you really want to edit the registry, back them upfirst just to make sure.

What about the best method for removing viruses? I like to do tech work on the side, but I HATE doing virus removals because I dont really know how to tell ifI got them completely off. So what's the best way to do this? Boot from a disc or flash? Hook the drive up to another computer and run a scan?

Actually you can never really tell %100 that you got the virus completely off because all you're gonna rely on is the obvious signs of the virus ifpresent. If it doesn't show the signs of infections anymore and if you ran a scan and it doesn't show anymore then it might be removed completelyalready. Also if the computer is rans faster already after you removed the virus then its also a good sign that the virus is off. But if the computer stillruns slow, then the virus might still be there. Viruses sometimes does not do anything and just takes up some hard disk space.

I'm currently using Norton but it hogs the hell out of memory.

I suggest using a browser that allows for ad and flash block since most of the virus's stem from one or the other. This way you can look at porn withoutworrying about contracting the monster.
