Any Accounting majors/accountants on NT?

Hey NT,

so it's recruitment season and I'm starting to see how screwed I am in terms for working in a national or Big 4 firm

Here's the facts:
-I'm working for a city government
-I have a 3.30 overall
-3.11 business GPA
-But my accounting GPA is 2.48

I have a plan of applying to the small firms or companies, but is there anything else I should take into account?

GPA is important, but not nearly as important as any contacts or indirect relationships you might have at a firm, especially at the partner level.  Got my fingers crossed for you, Eddie.

a little update for me, after 5 total interviews, HR called today and offered me a position as an experienced hire! currently waiting for the official offer to be sent over. if all goes as we talked about, i start my new career at KPMG in october.

I actually have an onsite interview at Goldman next week 8o

In the accounting/controller department. I had a mock (sp?) interview yesterday and mentioned that I wanted to work closely with financial statements if possible. Dude told me that the series of interviews will be happening in October etc. and that he would get back to me. So I was like ok that is perfect. Then boom today I get the email saying that I have been 'selected' for an interview that will be conducted next week. Along with the info I need to fill out an application etc.

So I am over here like wait what slow down whoa? I Have so many questions and they haven't provided any info. If they think imma just show up blind to an interview they buggin' :x

I am gonna research but I have NO IDEA what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated.

And I will probably contact the gentleman who I spoke to yesterday about it though.

Goddamit, studied for a whole week on advanced accounting, and I still managed to feel like I bombed on the first exam :{

Gonna have to see the professor this early in the semester already

what year are you currently?

with accounting, you might find it that a week isn't nearly enough.

over budget time for studying man. GPA will thank you for it.

5th year. I just need this class to graduate.
I guess I underestimated business consolidations. Thanks for the advice. :)

When talking Big 4 companies, how long does it typically take them to hit you back with an offer? 8o

I actually had an interview 2 weeks ago with Goldman's controller group, the interview was average, but I got a couple of promising emails from my contact and one from HR. But I haven't heard squat since then

I was just curious as to how it typically goes with these big structured companies.

Just went to Meet the Firms yesterday, talked to a bunch of government agencies, local and mid tier firms, and PWC.
Andersen Tax firm was the most interested in me :smokin
