All Things Sports Media Thread!!

The lightning round with Barkley was a thousand times better than the actual show. It was great. Barkley opened up a lot more. Got a "No Tippin' Pippen" dis and the origin of the Cliff Robinson Shower.

I rock with Simmons podcast, but that show just flat out wasn't good.

Not sure what they were doing with the cameras (panning in and out?), maybe I like him more when I don't have to see his face? I don't know.

Personally not a fan of these 'recap' type shows, especially with everything so in the moment now, whats the point?

Will be interested to see how they tweak it.
I got the same feeling from After The Thrones. I actually listen to The Watch wo much less now.:lol

Not overly interested, but I'll give the show a shot. His guests will be good, at least we know that.

This show should be more than 30 mins, though. That just isn't enough time for a weekly recap of sports.

Did he rant about the Celtics at any point?:lol

From what I saw on YouTube, you're absolutely right.. Just felt like a better setup and everything

Aside from affleck seeming drunk and cursing every other word.. The room just felt like a big empty room and then they kept doing weird camera cuts

The Barkley segment felt way better and more relaxed, just two guys on couches

Le batard been going at screamin a smith the last 2 days.. Love it

Cuban and Gladwell shouldve been 30min. :{

And the extra with Affleck talking about Good Will Hunting was way better than the Deflategate rant.

What I like about Bill's podcast is that it just feels like you're eavesdropping on 2 people. More organic. These interviews are too scripted. It's only 2 eps so I'm sure they'll tweak things.

Sheesh, that Simmons shows is getting ragged... and for good reason.
The ringer site or their podcasts haven't grabbed my attention either.
Bill should just stick to pumping out podcasts and writing columns

Let's take the 2 best things we do and totally eliminate one of them and then move the other into a more limited, time condensed format. Sounds great.

Even on Bill's podcasts the truly entertaining episodes are either with ppl he already has a rapport with(Gladwell/Klosterman/W. Morris) or comedians. And even then the long-form style is more engaging.

TBH I'm not really sure what he had in mind going into this. John Oliver knew exactly what his show would be from the first ep and it's as original as it compelling/entertaining. Bill Maher is the godfather of his format, it's bulletproof and ridiculously consistent. What was Bill's vision for this? He has a staff of writers but what on earth are they actually doing besides punching up the opening 3 minutes?

I think BS should stick with one interview segment per ep, ideally with genuinely interesting guests(Gladwell/Cuban were great) and fill the rest with pre-orchestrated segments.

Again, what are his staff of writers contributing again?

Not sure what Bill is thinking. The only good part of the show is interviews which is basically the podcast but with such a ridiculous time limit that no subject can actually breathe. The Bill Hader interview was laughably rushed. Like this guy couldn't even properly shake his hand. This has to be worse than what he dealt with on NBA Countdown.

The NBA Podcast is the worst since Tsarks is their NBA guy. Cringeworthy show. Can't believe The Ringer is this bad.

The show should just be expanded into a one on one 60 minute video podcast. :lol

he actually had a podcast that was a combination of all the bonus clips that was pretty good .

Heard about it 30 minutes ago and it's hitting me now seeing all his colleagues speak about him. I'm stunned. Had to wipe away some tears man, I wasn't expecting that.

61 years old smh. When it's your time to go, it's your time to go...

RIP
