The tongue I can KINDA excuse. Wing said exactly what I've been thinking, which is Nike can't source that exact material any more, so they're just going with "eh, close as we could find." That kind of thing I can understand. I can't understand changing things like that toe rand is just weird and unnecessary.

No excuse at least when it comes to OG colorways. Im sure they could get something way closer but they’d rather be cheap and lower quality while still raising prices. The 5s are far and away the worst in the retro line right now looks wise.

Gonna have to agree to disagree. They don't make OG Durabuck any more, so Nike goes with what's out there. I'd imagine it's the same thing with the 3M material for the tongue. If they literally don't make it any more, what are they supposed to do? I'm not a huge fan of the new material they're using. It's way too shiny. But if that's as close as they can get due to manufacturing issues, then that's what we get. If that stuff still exists and they changed for some other reason, then that's an entirely different discussion.

Toe box looks way better. So if these are the official pics,does that means that the recent pairs floating around online are fakes? Especially with those terrible box toe boxes smh

They look way better there, but my biggest issue is that nappy suede they are using instead of what they used on say the 2019 Infareds.

The 9s are still off but the 5s are so far off and haven’t made improvements and this pair looks to be going backwards. They didn’t get anything right on these materials or shape.

I know it doesn't exist but there's tons of stuff out there that feels SOMEWHAT similar, stuff from other brands and even generic brands.
The Chambray 7s from last year had a feel that isn't on Jordans often and I think it'd be great for the black metallic 5s, black-red 7s, etc.

I can't lie, they look much better here. I'm maintaining my stance that if I can't walk away from the Black/Red 1 release with two pairs, I'll grab these as a consolation gift. Still not a fan of the ashy nubuck upper but it's whatever.

I'm talking more about the 3M vs the OG Durabuck. I was just using that as an example of Nike making do with the materials available.

Black/Metallic 5 is my favorite shoe of all time. My first ever pair of J's back in 1990. I'm almost always in for at least one pair.

The nubuck is looking more flat and dark in these newer pictures. Would rather a straight up durabuck-adjacent material, but they're doing enough for me to buy a pair as long as that's what I see when I open the box.
Don't love the shape, but I don't hate it enough to be a deal breaker personally. It's beyond time for them to give the V a III/IV/XI-esque overhaul though.
