_Do you remember what you were doing 10 years ago? vol. 1999

Man, 10 years ago, I was still living in Brooklyn playing Wave Race and Mario Kart on Nintendo 64. I was also most likely in the house. My parents never let meout the house because they thought it was too dangerous haha.

I was a Freshman in High School a decade ago.


- I was only 14 and pretty skinny but I was already almost 6 feet tall and had pretty wide shoulders so I had a very year in freshman basketball and I did nothave many problems getting tickets to R rated movies.

- I shopped all the time at Pacific Sun Wear and went OD with clothes that had any type of Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters on them. I also wore boardshorts and shell necklaces.

- I bleached my hair like Eminem and knew every word to about half of his songs.

- I did absolutely no recreational drugs and I only drank alcohol as wine with meals so I didn't get about half of the stuff about which Eminem and othersrapped.

- I was first starting to get interested in politics and was just starting to read various publications and news papers. Based on having read literally tens ofarticles, I knew everything and I was naturally socialist at the time and my brother, who was a first year PhD Economics student at the time laughed and said Iwould one day look back and realize how dumb I was. The biggest irony is that he is a neo-Keynsian and I am Hayekian so our roles are now reversed.

- I actually enjoyed having lots of time off in the Summer. I watched Dragon Ball Z once daily, workout and/or practiced hoops twice daily and fapped thricedaily. I also would surf on days I was not working out or hangout at the all or watch Phantom Menace or the South Park Movie or the Matrix or I would go toBoarders Books to satiate my growing interest in politics and public policy. Simple pleasures were good enough pack then.

- I played tons of Playstation and N64. I was a lethal Golden Eye player, I made it through every painting in Mario 64, owned everyone at Mario Kart 64,collected every item in Ocarina of Time and most amazingly of all, I beat StarFox playing the whole game from the inside the cockpit view.


My, my being 14 and living in 1999 was a blast.

Yup, started school at San Jose State, having that swagger of a college kid. Life was so fun and less serious for me then now. I was meeting lots of women,finding out their provocative stories, and exploring my youth. It was a fresh start and a confusing time in my life, to say the least.

hell yea... i lived for Mondays for that sole reason... WWF and WCW... i was like 9 back then.

Working overtime at White Castle saving up for prom and graduation.

Trick Daddy's first CD and Ruff Ryders Vol 1 was the theme music in the Chi during that time,Jigga my.......!!!

...thinking that the whole world was the Southside of Chicago.

...trying to get a Grand Am or a Cutball with rims and some bang,thinking I would be doing it big.

...coming to terms with what happened January of that year.

I was 10 years old..

- Playin ball every day, havin not a care in the world.

- Downloading songs on napster and burning them, I was the man in my neighborhood for havin a CD burner, once charged a kid $20 to burn his favorite songs on ablank CD that HE bought haha

- That summer of 99 was one that I'll always remember. Everyday chillen at my cousins house playin ball all day and comin in at 3 pm to watch TRL withCarson Daly. I remember the songs from that summer so damn well......Kid Rock - Bawidabaw, Limp Bizkit - Nookie, LFO - Summer Girls (lol), Backstreet Boys - IWant it That Way, Smashmouth - All Star, Len - Steal My Sunshine, Eminem - My Name Is

Movies that Summer: Star Wars Episode I, American Pie (didn't understand anything I was waaaay too young), Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, SouthPark Movie (see American Pie)

Graduated from middle school in '99. For some reason I still remember Puffy's performance on TRL on New Year's Eve and he had the black/redXV's.

TRL was a very big hit show.
