why do you think US automakers dont make US cars in da states, only trucks? why do you think da auto makers in da US abandoned detroit? da government has made it so expensive to operate and do business here that they rather do it overseas.

US automakers "don't make cars, only trucks" because US automakers found out the hard way that pushing high cost, low quality, inefficient and ugly vehicles aren't what the car buying public wants. Japan automakers figured that out and from the 80s on the writing was on the wall for the US companies but they refused to look.

The government hardly has anything to do with "expensive to operate" costs, because it's been documented that many popular Honda and Toyota models are built right here in the US, with somewhere around 80% of American components.

not to mention the UAW labor disputes the US companies had.

This was taken from an article in 2008. Sales for smaller vehicles have continued to rise yearly since this was written. People are buying those Yaris and Fits or any other crossover type vehicle they can get their hands on. I love muscle cars as well, but you can't deny there's a demand for smaller vehicles.
