The answer to this problem is POSITIVE ONE no matter what you do. You just go from left to right.
As for the original problem, the answer is 288. Add the parentheses and you get 12. Then from there you go from left to right, so you would end up with 24 x 12 = 288.

Exactly. That juxtaposition is used to represent multiplication. It's the same thing as a * or a x. Anyone who thinks otherwise are overanalyzing the problem and making it harder than it really is.

the parenthesis doesn't mean you have to "get rid" of them. It simply means multiplication. Being that mulitplication and division are the same in the order of operations, you work from left to right. 288 is the answer.
For the answer to be 2, the equation would have to look like this. (48÷2(9+3)).
