You're exaggerating or misremembering the level of "hype" Scoot had while he was a HS junior. Brandon MIller was ranked AHEAD of him at the time he left to go to the G-League. Scoot never held a #1 ranking on any service before he bounced. He largely vaulted to "lock for #2" during his first G-league season.
On ESPN Scoot was the 7th ranked prospect when he signed with G League ignite.
that first G-League season he was 17, if he's in high school playing against worse comp he would have overtaken Brandon Miller as a recruit and would almost certainly be the top guy.
Miller was relatively up and down as a elite high school prospect. peaking at 6th I believe ending at 9th.
So by the time you get to Scoot draft eligible year, he's considered a way better prospect than Miller.
The question isn't Scoot vs. Brandon...but the question is NCAA vs G-League in relation to how each affects a prospects on-court development and advertising value right? Seems like the two perfect case studies to have this discussion.
You've asserted that the NCAA is better for the elite prospect for both. So based on YOUR LOGIC....as the highest profile player in all of college basketball...is Brandon Miller more developed for the NBA and in a better position to earn?
well even if we compare these two it doesn't seem that great for Gleague ignite.
- Pre this year, Scoot was considered a lock at two, according to Givony it's wide open now.
- Brandon Miller has improved his standing as a prospect and shown some development
Scoot is being criticized for his lack of development.
- Scoot social media following is higher, but he started from a higher base (20k vs 6k) and was around 80k until the viral Wembanayma game.
the wembanayama game is a black swan event that the Gleauge can't count on and Miller still has March Madness.
Scoot has a more marketable game, can you imagine what it would be if he was killing people on national TV every week?
imo the main value of Gleague was supposed to be development and money.
if guys aren't developing any faster, and with NIL the difference in money up front is less.
What makes G league so attractive?
