Question #1.) I know everyone in this thread has had their own battles when dealing with UNITE but what are your thoughts on seeing yet another option for SB close it's doors?
Question #2.) Have you ever dealt with your local or a shop closing near you? What contributed to the shop closing and do you think it could have been avoided?
Question #3.) If you were Nike SB what would your version of the 420 2014 SB look like? Describe what the Dunk SB would look like using the format I've provided. (You can do up to 5 different SB dunks)
FORMAT:
1.) Name of dunk and is it a dunk high or dunk low?
2.) Nickname of dunk?
3.) Brief description of materials used and coloring on side panels, toe cap, heel, tongue, laces, sole and insole. (I will accept Photoshop canvas picture.)
4.) Explain the inspiration behind the Dunk SB.
5.) How would it be released?
Question 1: Never had an experience with them, so I can't speak on how I feel about the shop closing, I hate to see another independent go under though, the independent shops are pretty much the last stop for finding steals and deals years later on some shoe that ended up lost in their stock room.
Question 2: I've got 2 tales of shops "closing" 1 was Skate Spot in Lafayette, LA: Guys that ran it were nice as can be, it was a tiny little shop attached to an indoor skate park. The owner decided that he was tired of being tied down to a shop and wanted to go off on some epic road trip for a year or two and couldn't find any takers to take over the shop, so they shut down in the middle of 2010. This shop came through on a lot of QS for me between late 2008 and 2010 and I was pretty sad to see it go. It could have been avoided if someone had stepped up, but the buy in was probably bigger than most people would want to risk, skate park attached meant more money and a slightly stable income flow, but insurance costs alone made it a problem for anyone not already rich.
2nd shop: Humidity Skate Shop in New Orleans. Same sort of deal owner wanted to do something new and got tired of day in and out of running a shop. Here however former staff members stepped up and bought the place out, but in the transition quite a few releases were missed and it took them a while before they got the CC companies squared away again. The transition might have gone smoother if things like Square had already been out when the store changed hands, not sure what could be done about the account changing hands and a gap in some releases, I hear the Sales Rep has a pretty big area to cover down here with not a whole lot of stores in state so he's rarely here.
Question 3: I've thought about this one for a while, I wasn't even going to try to toss out ideas because I'd feel like a phony since I don't smoke and anything I came up with in relation to that felt pretty lame. Then I thought of taking the idea of a 420 shoe in a completely different direction so here we go
1.) Nike Dunk Low Pro SB Premium
2.) Runner's "High"
3.) Suede and Nylon this release will draw from Nike's early runners going with an almost completely monotone build featuring suede on the toe cap, flaps, and lacelets, and nylon for the toe box/midpanel/heel. Heel tab/swoosh would be in a contrasting color. Possible colors: Green/Orange, Red/Navy, Royal/Yellow, Black/Red. Midsole would be White, with the swoosh color used for the stitching. Black Outsole
4.)The inspiration for these is the early Nike Runners: The Waffle Racer, Oregon Waffle, LDV going with what was a popular theme back in the 70s when jogging got really big in the US that through the exercise a runner could achieve a high.
5.)Release would be similar to the early days of Nike only flipped for SBs, and reps would drive around and sell these from the back of a van at skate parks. Eventually they'd show up in stores, but for the first few weeks they'd only be available at skate parks.

Dunks are TTS on me usually but AJ1s are always 1/2 size BIG. I am just staying tts. Better safe than sorry.
