It gets said a lot because the opposite outcome has yet to happen. If a superstar wants out, they are getting out and going where they want/prefer. They arent getting sent to purgatory. Players run the league. A team isnt gonna risk that to prove a point or get the last laugh.

What franchise in recent history has had trouble because of this?
Dan gilbert took shots at lebron on his way out and they just reinked darius

Darius was drafted there and hes definitely not a superstar. And Lebron was a free agent when he walked outta there to Miami. Im referring to superstars bullying their way out of their contracts, and if a team screws them and doesnt send them to a preferred place, it will then be a problem attracting other superstars to come their way. Its all optics. Thats why teams always cave in..

Kawhi was sent up to The Wall, but it worked out for him.

And how many stars have came to san Antonio since that happened…
There arent too many stars in the league and only like a couple teams actually land big free agents. Most stay with their current teams.

Sixers are interested in Eric Gordon, so basically Morey wants to reform the 2018 Rockets but with the Sixers

and for a tea

and you cant send the player to a "purgatory" team cuz this franchises never make a offer, if you are lets say sacramento, why you trade your assets when KD already told you **** you i dont want to be there

Hell Chris Paul signed a 5 year deal or extension with the Clippers in 2013 when Donald Sterling still owned the team.

Without a doubt NBA players have way more say and power than NFL players do. But the Nets playing hardball and not taking a trash deal just to make Kevin Durant happy isn’t going to prevent them from signing talent in the future. That whole narrative is overblown.

If they offer the money and it’s a good fit. No free agent is going to be like “Na I’m not signing with Philly because they were mean to Ben Simmons when he wanted to be traded”. Now they might turn down Philly for other reasons or prefer to play in a different market. But that’s a different story.

Mark cuban is considered one of the better owners and he hasnt been able to sign a top free agent

It cannot be because they treated rondo or Dennis rodman bad?

They gave him and Kyrie the keys now they're upset over a 'lack of leadership' even though they wanted to run things :lol:

Can't make it up
I never liked durant, kyrie, harden, or simmons. If all are gone soon I can go to nets games again.

san antonio ain't a prime destination. What big signings have they had before kawhi was even there?

Lamarcus

edit - i see you said before Kawhi. Not even sure who that'd be. Including Kawhi, SA's greatest players were all drafted there.

With Russ you get a future hof'r who will play 75 games during the regular season and average 20-8-10. Plus you get an expiring 47 mil off your books, 2 first rd picks, and possibly even

How can BKN say no when nobody else want Kyrie like that
How the F do you know who wants Kyrie ..

You're like the rest of us, watching ESPN and Woj / Shams to see what's happening.

Also. Is anyone really sending players to purgatory out of spite in these situations?

You take the best deal possible regardless of where the destination is. If the Lakers and Sacramento both make trade offers for a player and the Laker offer is better, you take the better offer any day of the week over trading them to Sacramento to prove a point. Now if Sacramento makes the best offer, you trade them there and let the chips fall how they may. But you’re not making that move to be petty.

The only exception to this is if the better offer is from a rival team or someone who can be potential direct competition to where you want to move them far away where you don’t have to play against them much.

LMA?

LoL ... However, San Antonio has been good for so long that it was never about bringing in a superstar but rather build from within which is what it seems they are about to do.
