kareem really avoided the media and didn't trust them and in return, they didn't really do him any favors. as great as he was, they never wrote about him like the other greats. the view on him was that he lacked "people skills" and would easily be frustrated. it's a reason why he was always passed up for a head coaching job
it's kind of like rick barry. he always wanted to be a head coach and would openly campaign when the warriors had an opening. his bad reputation carried on way past his playing days. i remember he had a radio show and he definitely still had that vibe. surprised he got the Big 3 coaching gig
