i'm not comfortable talking politics because:

a) i don't follow it enough to intelligently talk about it (kinda like shatter and his football takes on Brady and the Pats)
b) i don't give a **** about it
Following the footsteps of your big bro Brady with that policy :hat

Netflix has a documentary called 13 about the US prison system. Must watch. The US makes up only 5% of the earths population but 25% of the worlds locked up criminals.

Companies like Walmart, JC Penny, Victoria Secret etc has products made in jail by inmates. Free labor. Modern day slavery. Companies profit off citizens being locked up. It's become big business, generating billions. It's sick man.

I don't have a problem with inmates providing free labor. You say slavery, but take a step back for a second...They're in prison. That juxtaposition doesn't mesh.

I'm not sure how to feel about the big companies profiting from it, but it doesn't sit particularly well.

I vote for the greater good but my attitude has always been "I'm just here man"

It's not right, even allowing it makes it easy to exploit and not all people in prison are violent criminals and don't deserve that kind of punishment. These people are still humans at the end of the day no matter if they are in prison or not they should be compensated for their labor. Don't want to compensate them for their labor? Don't use them as labor and just take those jobs public like they should be and pay those people a fair wage.

The problem is it gives law makers who are lobbied by these companies incentives to lock people up and change laws to keep the inmate workforce rolling.

Jail is punishment but should also be rehabilitation. The inmates aren't being rehabilitated but exploited to make billionaires richer.

There's two entirely different conversations here.

What are those two?

100% agree.

baseball benefits from the summer so if you go to a game and your team sucks it doesn't matter because you can drink, mingle, eat and still have fun

I f with that.
Everything I believe about politics I learned from George Carlin.

prisons are fd up. No rehabilitation. Hell some places they charge you to be in jail. How you in jail and they charge you daily for being in there [emoji]128552[/emoji][emoji]128552[/emoji][emoji]128552[/emoji]

Non-violent criminals and the reason why they're there vs. legitimate crime (violent, white-collar, etc.). The latter of which should have their freedom stripped and free labor being strictly punishment. Again, I can't attest for the big companies exploiting this, but it doesn't sit well.

Just so it's clear, prison shouldn't be all about rehabilitation nor should it be all punishment. There needs to be both.

It's all messed up. They told a story about a kid who was arrested for a crime he didn't do. He either had a choice to take 3 years or go to trial and face 20-30 or something crazy. He went to trial lost but was later found innocent. He was beat up by inmates and guards while in there. Locked up at 18 for something he didn't do. Spent 3 years getting beaten down by the system. Was released at 21. Hung himself at 22.

Young men and women all over the country take short sentences everyday for something they didn't do so they can avoid losing at trial and serving crazy time.

I guess thats where we differ I don't think free labor no matter the crime committed should be apart of a human beings punishment or have freedom's stripped.

When the other options are obviously bad like they have been for the past few elections I don't blame you. I'm independent as well but not a Ninjahood independent that thinks just cause my registration is independent means my ideology is moderate. People think one means the other when it really doesn't. Long way to say I vote Democrat as well

Bill and the Democrats at that time where so desperate to win elections again after losing to Reagan twice and Bush twice they caved and started going with the tough on crime ideals that Republicans fostered just to win again. It was spineless and hurt so many citizens in the short and long term.
