I agree that any player who steps on the diamond is at risk for injury, of course. I'm picking on pitchers especially just because of how much money is tied to the best of them and the nature of their work. No one else is asked to torque their arms/shoulders so violently 75-100 times a day. I imagine a pitcher's arm and/or shoulder being injured is a much more stressful situation than an infielder tweaking an ankle or an outfielder straining a hamstring.

Venezuelan team is beastly

Puerto Rico not too bad either

Venezuela over USA in finals

Cano is Dominican btw

Yep. I'm ******ed for that one. Fixed. But my point still stands.

Yankees re-signed Phil Hughes 1 year deal for $7 million to avoid arbitration. He got a raise of $4 million.

I think it's pretty disappointing that more players don't want to go. I don't give a damn about injuries, baseball is America's past time and we can't win this tournament? After losing twice, I was hoping some of the stars would get together and be excited to go, kind of like what happened with the NBA Olympics.

Either way, the offense is looking solid but pitching will be a problem again.

You would if it were Parker or Anderson who were out for the year.

Those same injuries could happen in spring training, games which mean "nothing" also.

I get it. Every fan, franchise, etc. is worried about losing a player. I understand the risk but it's just disappointing to me.

I agree with you, it's disappointing.
But from a players perspective, playing 6 months straight, 160+ games, that extra fatigue could catch up to you when you need it most in September, especially pitchers.

Can't compare this to the Olympics.

Winning a Gold Medal is a big accomplishment, winning the WBC trophy really isn't. It's a tournament that is still in the infant stages, and is still getting it's legs.

Don't blame big leaguers for sitting out.

Saw a pic yesterday of Roger Bernadina...dude is yoked beyond belief. Son looks like he was playing ball in the late 90's....

Bernie has all the muscle in the world, he also has too many holes in his swing which is why he's gonna be a career 4th outfielder.

RIP Oriole great Earl Weaver. One of the all time great managers & maybe the best to ever argue with an ump...

"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all." - Earl Weaver RIP

That's an awesome quote.

Got damn, first The Earl of Baltimore & now Stan Musial passed away. RIP to one of the greatest ball players ever.

If memory serves, he won 3 World Series, 6-7 batting titles, & 2-3 MVPs....
