Good question on Rivers vs Johnson. I think I'd go Johnson just being that we don't know as much about him as Rivers

I obviously know more abt Austin rather than johnson but johnson was a for sure steal for Miami.
But NYK was in the bottom 10 in bench scoring and Austin avg 15 a game per 36 off the bench and was at like 11 a game in 20 min since xmas with defense. Was really good in the times he started for LAC as well. And he's 23
For a team like NYK who's depleted at the guard position, a back up guard / occasional starter with size in Rivers could be a good look.

Johnsons more of a 2guard, not really sold on him as a PG... None the less a starting PG

I don't think it will happen for a variety of reasons, but a Lopez for Clarkson swap would make lots of sense for both teams.

Lopez is a good player & a better person so it'll suck when he's eventually traded. Only seen him play for 1 season but i know almost every team in the league could use someone like him.

I agree. BUT, he still could get a significant amount of minutes at PG off the bench as a 6th man, which may be his best role, or still as a starter by staggering his minutes with Russell.
The problem is that he doesn't possess the court vision and passing ability that Russell has, and at least as an on-ball defender, and understanding the concepts of team defense, Russell is better currently.

1. Consistent 3 point shot
2. Some effort on defense. Which would show some improvement.. Couple it with a coach other than Byron teaching him that

Its not a bad move at all.
Given his age and ability, its a good move. Exacerbated by the fact that there aren't that many guards available for nyk in the free agent crop this summer
He's attainable, young, and may be turning the corner as a player. He has flaws but he's definitely a player nyk should look at. At least I would.
Been saying this ad nauseum on nt but he shot over 40% from 3 over his last 50 to 60 games this year while providing great defense from the guard position.

I actually didn't realize Tyler Johnson is older than Austin. That certainly swings the pendulum back onto Rivers' side
