This could very well be true.

However, if you're the lakers, do you really care about fit when you already have Kobe, Nick Young, Clarkson, and Lou Williams all of the same team? And then you draft A PG that needs the ball to do what he does?

Doesn't seem like they had very much regard for fit on draft night.

Lou Williams wasn't a Laker on draft night. Nick Young was on the trade block.

I thought they went with Russell because they thought they were going to get Cousins or Aldridge

This was when those rumors were HOT I think

If the Lakers really thought that, and drafted accordingly, someone pulled off a masterful troll job against them

In regards to the Russell vs Okafor/Mudiay pick, also have to take into account team fit. Obviously you take the best player when you can, but Okafor and Mudiay weren't as good fits as Russell.

I think Lakers management views talent trumps all, and in this case Russell was the best talent in their eyes plus has the star quality. Call it foolish, but the Lakers seem to put an emphasis on their private workouts and interviews, and Russell wowed them in a way that Okafor and Mudiay didn't.

You're saying they couldn't have used a Center?  They ended up having to go out and sign Roy garbage can Hibbert because they needed a starting Center...
Hey, I was just happy they kept the damn pick. :lol I expected the pick to be Okafor and was fine with it. But the last week leading up the draft Russell was being tabbed as the #2 target, which was fine with me because I viewed him as the #2 prospect after Towns in the draft.

And Hibbert is the perfect fit next to Randle and the rest of the Laker pylons.

Yall have to give the Russell pick time.

I've been harsh on Otto Porter over the years, and since the playoffs, I've eaten some crow.

Same can be said about Russell. It's not entirely fair to judge his NBA prospects based off of 3-4 mos. that include summer league, training camp, preseason, and one real NBA game.

If by year 3 he's looking like Evan Turner, then it's probably fair to bring up hindsight.

care so much? nah, but his douchey behavior is just another reason to dislike him.

someone that calls himself Pretty Tony is probably doin the same type of stuff as d-lo tho, so now i guess you comment makes sense
Dude is reminding me more and more of Jeremy Lamb.
Dudes are two peas in that pod.

@pretty tonyIt's not so much that a "bunch of dudes are worried about his appearance" : it's precisely that when a bunch of dudes are able to read people, or between the lines...

They can tell when D-Lo (Lamb too) are in certain situations, image is more important than the task at hand.

Like Dlo can be at the FT line and I can guaran-damn-tee you that he is worried more about licking his lips as the camera passes, than sinking the FT's

Type of dudes to show up 15minutes late to someones Funeral because they primped in the mirror for 45 minutes.

Image is important, but the job at hand comes first.

This, I have a problem with, vain *** dudes that are vain first job second.

Still nothing said about LeBron and the Cavs stomping the grizz by thirty on the road without irving?

Funniest thing about this Russell appearance debate is he said during draft night about LA and it's temptations can be distracting.

People wanna stan so hard for 2-4.

2-4 is 1 of 8 from downtown to start the year, yikes. That 12% shooting.

At least he can still rely on his athleticism.

Mudiay or Okafor is a no brainer.Lakers fans should be sick.2 perennial olympiad circa 2020-2024 olympics.how could Okafor not fit?kobe isn't even good as mudiaye

Nobody cares.

It's the first game of the season.

Last night means absolutely nothing in the long run for all 30 teams.

It's very early. And I do think D-LO will be a solid NBA player with a long career. Just not a superstar PG as he was tabbed to be.

These are the things I think he'll need to work on to become an All Star level PG....which I don't see happening.

-He will have to learn how to get his shot off without a pick.
-Will have to learn how to finish in traffic.
-Has to improve immensely on defense.
-Improve his shot selection.
-Become a more creative ball handler and get to the rim.
-Learn to move without the ball.
-Learn to draw fouls.
-Learn to advance the ball without going for the home run pass.
-Become more judicious with the slick passing.
-Learn to draw the defense and make the skip pass
-And become a better shooter.

Some of these will come with time and experience. Some I just don't see happening.

His strengths are he's a good shooter coming off a screen, and has great vision and natural feel for the game.

Wall >westbrook...I thought long and hard...the westbrook that was drip g 40 would t appear until kd trade.i won't lie westbrook is finally better than kd.russel has turned into a double digit assisting,dunking,3 pt shooting monster.
