Butch Jones will not be coaching Purdue next season

He will not be the next head coach at Purdue according to GoldandBlack.com.

What isn't known is whether or not Jones will be coaching at Cincinnati or Colorado next season. Colorado has reportedly made Jones an offer of $13.5 million over 5 years.

I think Purdue is a better job than Colorado at this point. I think it's much harder to recruit in Texas, Oklahoma as a Colorado head coach than it is to recruit Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois as a Purdue coach. Both are risky jobs that have been career killers as of late.

I've seen people label the Tennessee job as a career killer now, and I can't agree with that at all.

Tennessee job is still top 10 in the country, they just need to get the right staff in there.  It's one thing to be able to recruit kids from everywhere with the resources they give you, but if you can't actually coach them up you deserve to get canned.

Colorado job is tough. I could see a HUGE name coach going in there and winning, but what big name would want to go to that school.  Correct me if I'm wrong but they're really hard on money aren't they?  How would any middling coach compete against the Cali and Texas schools and Oklahoma? 

I think whoever gets the Colorado job next will have a longer rope than Embree, but still Purdue is probably the safer job right now.

Purdue has to be the safer job right now. From an outsiders perspective Colorado is a dumpster fire. Way more so than Purdue. Given Butchy's coaching history it would make sense to go to PU too. At CMU and Cincy he inherited Brian Kelly's spread personnel. If he took the Purdue job right now he would be inheriting a team that, although devoid of the typical Purdue spread QB that can tear you apart through the air, is primarily made up of exactly who he needs. Quicker O-line, small backs, and slots receivers. I don't know what he's getting if he goes to Colorado. The product is miles and miles below Pac-12 mediocrity.

Neither destination would is ideal for recruiting. Colorado probably has some of the weakest talent in the country. Indiana isn't much better, but you do get some good talent out of the Indianapolis metro area. Purdue probably has a better shot at luring kids from the Chicago land area. Butch definitely has ties in the midwest so he's already off to a better start. Histrorically PU also recruits Florida pretty well and I know Butch has some pretty good ties down there too.

Logically Purdue is the better job. But if Colorado is offering $2.7 mill/per x that's just stupid) he'll be the 3rd highest paid coach in the Pac-12 behind Chip and Todd Graham (seriously, wtf), he's going to see dollar signs.
