That Hawks/Grizzlies comparison is pretty baffling. Grizzlies have taken steps to be considered favorites in the WC in earlier years (in the playoffs I guess), rebuilt/restocked depth through the draft and trades and are always in competition to take out the best when they're in the playoffs. Hawks can't say any of those things, even when they had Joe/Josh/Al all healthy and playing.
I don't recall the Grizzlies ever being favorites but they are a far cry from the Atlanta stinking Hawks. When did Atlanta have one of the top defenses? Atlanta's iso ball days were like nails on a chalkboard. Even though Memphis don't go out and score 100 every night, they play a much better brand of basketball than Atlanta has in the recent past.I mean there was that time they made the WCFs because their first and second round opponents had an all star contributor unavailable due to injury, ran into a healthy Spurs team then got quickly swept out of the post season.
When I made the Hawks comparison it was more in the state of the franchise.
Not the way the franchise is ran.
Obviously the grizzled are proficient in their front court play and 2 dominate big men.
But like I stated, they aren't good enough to win a chip, aren't bad enough to tank.
In the next season or two the team is going to get blown up.
And No, I've never seen Memphis mentioned as a "dark horse" either.
When has there ever been another favorite outside of the Spurs, Thunder and Heat over the last few seasons?
Dallas wasn't a favorite when they won. No, Memphis was never considered "favorites", but they were always considered a dark horse team that could win it all. Let's not act like everybody had them as an easy out come playoff time.
Its pretty funny how "getting swept by the Spurs" gets brought up along with injuries, but you never hear about the injuries that the Grizz had to endure during those times and throughout each of the last several seasons. Did I make an excuse the year we lost to the Clippers in the 1st round because Zbo was only 60-70% healthy? Nah. Did I make an excuse that OKC won only because Rudy Gay was out when Memphis took the almighty Thunder to 7 games in the 2nd round? Nah.
Damn, with the way DatZ and JJ talking, teams should be lining up to play the Grizz in the 1st round. It should be an easy out for any team I'm assuming.
The only thing with that way of thinking is, do you believe the other west teams are in the same state as well? Namely the Mavs, Blazers, Warriors, Clippers, Rockets, Suns? Do these teams really have that much of a better chance to win it all than the Grizzlies?
During that time period you were claiming yall were better without him though, because OJ was cooking.

Who cares if you never mentioned them as a dark horse?
What's funny is how a lot of people actually felt like the Grizz were going to the NBA Finals last year after beating OKC. A lot of people didn't even give the Spurs a chance in the WCF due to what the Grizz did to them in the 2011 playoffs. In that point in time, they were actually considered favorites to win the West.
other than you, who said the Grizz were going to the finals?
What percent do the Rockets, Blazers or Warriors have to make the finals?at the Grizz being the dark horse that could win it all.
The Grizz are a playoff filler. They're always there, but have zero chance of making the finals. Last year they only got past OKC cuz Rustle Jimmies was hurt and got promptly swept by the Spurs.
OKC and SAS are the favorites. Clippers and Dallas(IMO) are the "dark horses" grizz ain't eem in that discussion
Rockets 33% (contender)
What percent do the Rockets, Blazers or Warriors have to make the finals?
i'd say the Warriors got a better chance than the Mavs...I don't Mavs get past the first round.
Warriors are the dark horse of the West.
Funny how the Mavs are a dark horse, but they may end up losing their seeding to the team he thinks has no chance.
One game doesn't equal the entire playoffs dude .
Even if they lost to Memphis there's a MUCH better chance of them getting out of the first round against SAS than Memphis beating OKC.
