Wait so the Suns have potentially 4 1st round picks in the draft?

How valuable are that many mid-round picks in the NBA anyway? Not very IMO. You end up hoping you can get one rotation player or maybe a starter if you're super lucky.

while they're not going to be superstars that change the franchise, there's very valuable players that can be found, and used as assets to turn into a star.
picks in the first round after #9 the last couple of years:

2013:
MCW
steven adams
shabazz muhammad
greek freak
tony snell
gorgui dieng
THJR
Rudy gobert
mason plumlee

2012:
jeremy lamb
kendall marshall
john henson
tyler zeller
terrence jones
even fournier
jared sullinger
miles plumee
draymond greed (2nd round, pick 35)

2011:
klay thompson
morris twins
kawhi leonard
nicola vucevic
iman shumpert
tobias harris
kenneth faried
reggie jackson
norris cole
jimmy butler
chandler parsons (2nd round, pick 38)

2010:
paul george
patrick patterson
larry sanders
eric bledsoe
avery bradley
lance stephenson (2nd round, pick 40)

mid round picks are also valuable trade currency

raps got lowry for a mid round pick

rockets packaged that same pick in the harden trade

Aren't the Suns' picks all after 12?  I would say that's significant versus 9.

And of course there are solid contributors to be found after the lottery, I'm not insane.  I'm just saying the % hit chance is pretty low in that range.

You don't want to actually be drafting with 3 mid-round picks onto a team.  It's too hard to develop three rookies like that at once for most NBA squads, they are going to be competing for playing time, etc.

Yeah, it just seems like his improvement is more drastic than anyone else's. DJ has been much better on D but he's not quite the dominant presence in the paint that he's going to be in a couple years
