Shump was
1. Injured
2. Perhaps bothered by trade rumors
3. Deflated by the way the season has gone

In that order.

I know the Knicks can sign Melo for the most money, buy why would Melo want to come back to this? Especially if he resigns for the max, as that would cripple the team going forward.

Sign & Trade him to the Bulls or Celtics. Get a few 1sts. Maybe a young guy.

They need to completely reset.

He's healthy now though, you gotta play well for yourself man, he's going to have a career beyond this season, you might as well up your value.

Shump is just like Landry Fields. Drafted by the knicks and seems like an immediate steal, and then eventually declines more and more in production

That small Shaq highlight just a glimpse of how special he was, 7'1 350 (or 370 depending on year :lol) going coast to coast.

:lol chill, Landry had no real skills and he wasn't athletic.

Shump can at least defend well when he wants to and is a superior athlete to most at his position.

He was never that good. He benefitted from decent play on a big stage in a big market which inflated his true talent/worth. He's a rotation guy with above average athleticism, a decent handle, and a suspect jumper.

How was Shump overrated? I only heard Knicks fans talking about him

:lol

People were definitely saying he had All-Star potential. I'm on mobile, I can't go digging for quotes.

I thought you were banned from the thread btw? What happened?

People expected too much from Shumpert on the offensive end. For someone with his athletic ability, it's a shame how limited he is on that end of the court. A competent coach could get the best out of him though. If it's true that Phil really likes him, he might stand to gain the most from the regime change.

He also tends to be over-aggressive on defense and makes a ton of mistakes because of that. He's good (not great) on that side and has the tools to become a consistent shutdown defender but he's definitely not there yet despite what others might lead you to believe.

Potato head and the Knicks org really didn't do him any favors. Always holds him accountable for every little **** and makes sure to let him & the media know it but vets like JR get away with a lot. For an emotional player like Shump that becomes a huge factor.
