Why not? Indiana right now is one of the best defensive teams in the history of the league. George and Hibbert have gotten better. They've bolstered their bench from last year by adding Scola, Bynum, and Turner. And they might have HCA this time around --although that isn't set in stone just yetOKC would wash the Pacers, though
You're implying the Pacers can win the East.
don't see it.
Meanwhile the Heat have fallen off hard defensively (you can say they're 'coasting' but going from a top 5 defense to 14th is never good), and we have no idea what's going on with Wade. The cumulative effects of all these playoff runs will take its toll. We all know the historical precedent behind a team trying to make 4 consecutive finals.
Yes the Heat have Lebron, but Lebron beasted against Indy last year and they still almost lost. One guy can't beat an elite team all by himself, no matter how dominant he is. Even Shaq in his prime needed Kobe to go ham for the Lakers to get past some of those Western teams back in the day.
I'm pretty sure Indiana would be favored in a series against Miami, at least in Vegas. I don't think Miami is still considered the *outright* favorite to win the title.
