But Lamar passed on it
He also said that his agent advised him to take the offer, but Odom himself wanted more.
He believes the previous 10 mill offer will not come back to the table!
Ireland is calling that bsports website as BS. Buss is in Hawaii with his family.

Lamar Odom will re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, coming to terms on a $40 million contract over four years, according to sources close to the forward.
The deal will likely be consummated when owner Dr. Jerry Buss returns from vacation in Hawaii.

he best offer the Lakers had previously offered was Odom was for four years, $36 million. But the fourth year was a team option, that the Lakers had to either exercise, or buy Lamar out for $3 million. That means Odom turned down a guaranteed three year, $30 million contract.
That offer is no longer on the table, nor is any offer from the Lakers. I'm told that if Lamar called the team today and said he would accept these terms, he would most likely be told that the offer is no longer available. Again, this is my opinion based on multiple conversations. I have not spoken directly to Mitch Kupchak or Jerry Buss. If Lamar and Dr. Buss got together over dinner, maybe that original offer could resurface, but I'm told that's highly unlikely.
By the way, the perception that Odom's agent, Jeff Schwartz, has been making this worse isn't necessarily true. I've had two different people tell me that Schwartz is a solid agent who has taken every offer seriously, and advised Lamar to do the same. I had one guy who told me, "I'm pretty sure Jeff advised him to take the deal...it's always the client's call."-I said yesterday that I thought the percentage chance of Lamar returning to the Lakers was 70%. Everybody I talked to today said my number was too high, and "it's more like 50/50." I still think it's more than that, but not much.

Bye Lamar!!!!!
true that other teams won championships without lamar on their team but lamar is what makes the Lakers a difficult matchup cuz of the differentlineups that Phil can put out there, either being the power big lineup with Pau and Bynum, or being the quick attacking team with Pau and Lamar and withoutLamar you lose that dynamic. Take away a key player from those teams and they don't win either. Take away Ginobili and the Spurs don't win, take awayRasheed Wallace and the Pistons don't win, KG from the Celtics etcOriginally Posted by 23ska909red02
Regarding Lamar, I go back to what I've said with Kobe many, many times: we won before him, and we'll win after him.
Do I want Lamar to remain a Laker? Of course! But we don't... 'need'... Lamar on the team. The Celtics, Spurs, Pistons, Lakers, and cHeat all won championships this decade with Lamar on another team. The Nets went to back-to-back Finals with Lamar on another team.
I think mentally, I've already moved on, even though it's not official that he's gone and not official that he's staying. I'll celebrate his new Laker contract when I hear/see something official from the Lakers and I know that we didn't overpay or commit to too long.
Bryant 'optimistic' Odom will re-sign with Lakers
By ALEX KENNEDY, Associated Press Writer 14 hours, 35 minutes ago
SINGAPORE (AP)-Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant(notes) is optimistic the NBA champions will re-sign key free agent Lamar Odom(notes).
"I'm optimistic that he'll be back," Bryant said Wednesday at a news conference in Singapore as part of a six-country Asian tour. "He makes us a much, much stronger team."
Negotiations broke down last week and the Lakers retracted a contract offer to Odom. The Miami Heat are also wooing the 6-foot-10 forward.
Odom played a key role off the bench in the Lakers' championship run, averaging 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds during the playoffs.
Bryant said forward Ron Artest(notes), who signed as a free agent with the Lakers earlier this month, will help bolster the team's chances to repeat as champions.
"I think Ron's going to be a great addition to us," Bryant said. "It's about how well we play together. No matter how much talent you have, it's about how you put those pieces of the puzzle together."
Bryant downplayed speculation that Lakers coach Phil Jackson may take some games off next season because of health problems.
"Who said he's coaching less?" Bryant said. "Phil likes messing with you guys. He'll be there all the time, unless he has a doctor's appointment to get to."
Bryant also said he was more likely to agree to play for Team USA at the World Championships in 2010 and the 2012 London Olympics now that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has committed to lead the team.
Bryant and Krzyzewski won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics last year.
"I'm very excited to see that he signed on," Bryant said. "It influences all the guys just because we've been through that experience before and it becomes like a family."
"It definitely influences me."
Bryant, an 11-time All-Star, said a possible showdown against LeBron James(notes), former Lakers teammate Shaquille O'Neal(notes) and the Cleveland Cavaliers in next season's finals would be "crazy."
"Just the hoopla that surrounds it and all the stories that would come out of it," Bryant said. "If that match up is to happen, we have to take it one day at a time, we can't get caught up in it being a given that we're going to be in the finals."
"We have to take care of our business, but that being said, it would be a heck of a show."

I understand the matchup difficulties.
But the Spurs won without Garnett or Sheed or Lamar, the Pistons won without Ginobili, Lamar, or Garnett, the Celtics won without Sheed, Ginobili, or Lamar, and the Lakers won without Ginobili, Sheed, or Garnett... etc.
I can understand saying that Lamar certainly helps us win it all, but saying that he is... it? Like, if we don'tsign him, we're wasting time playing any more games, because we're definitely not going to win the championship? I hate hearing that kind of talk aboutany player. The Bulls are the only championship team in recent history where it can be said 'Nope, they didn't win any championships before thatplayer, and they haven't won any since.'
If you want to say that Lamar is a matchup nightmare because of his versatility AND we have no shot at a championship without him, be my guest.
All I'm saying is that he's a matchup nightmare because of his versatility, but I'm not throwing in the towel if he walks.

word...i said during the playoffs...championship or not odoms gone next year (although this when i thought ariza was stayingOriginally Posted by Infyrno23
SKA i 100% understand your point... mentally ive moved past Odom in a Laker jersey.
Im always in a "F Odom Mood"
i think we had a Luxary with the match up problems Odom presented, but its not something that will make us a worse team... i mean seriously we all complained about how inconsistent he was... and personally i dont want to commit $40 mill to a guy who balled out cuz it was his contract year....
let him go, and lets get through this season, and try to gel with the team we have.... Bynum gonna have to really step up now, cuz he wont have much room for error.
But F Lamar Odom wether he signs back or not.
