'09 COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFF-SEASON THREAD-recruiting/Coaching Changes/Transfers

FSU needs him. We can't afford to lose another WR when:

- Greg Carr and Preston Parker are no longer on the team
- Corey Surrency lost his appeal for an addt'l year (

)
- Taiwan Easterling ruptured his achillies in the spring. So there's no telling when he'll come back and if he does !#% effective he will be.
- Rod Owens is probably going to be suspended for a couple games due to his DUI.
- Bert Reed was suspended multiple times last year for missing classes and failing drug tests.
- Willie Downs failed to qualify and Willie Haulsted is kinda iffy on getting in as well.

So yeah, we need him. But I don't think his issue is a big deal. He'll be good to go. Legally at least.

He MIGHT end up being the top Player/ATH in the state of Florida and will be HIGHLY recruited by all the big names.

But he likes Oregon

All the big dogs?

The only big dog I know of is Florida. There are a couple 6 or 7 win Chihuahuas down there, but he might want to attend a school that is actually relevant inthe 21st century...

Barr would love to get a chance at rb, he says he feels like that's his natural position, but it's not gonna happen. His future is on the defensiveside of the ball, either lb or de, prolly de. He has acknowledged this has said in an article he'll play wherever he's put. Notre dame is going hardafter him

this dude is scary good. big 12 defenses better watch out for him this year, i could see him giving us problems when we see them again.

I just think he has no help.
Its gonna be virtually impossible for them to compete even if he plays out of his mind

Which is exactly why he won't go to Oregon when it comes down to it.

Griffin is the man.

Was he highly recruited out of HS..........Baylor the only school that would let him play QB??

Very Highly recruited, he was gonna go to Houston but Coach Briles left for baylor and he followed him there

Briles was pretty much the only coach that was offering him solely as a QB. Almost all of the other coaches were offering him as a WR with a shot at QB.

MY DUDE...

And just to clarify, he was highly recruited out of high school, but nobody other than Briles offered him at quarterback... Everybody else (Texas, A&M,Tennessee too I think) was receiver or corner... Stayed true to Briles when he left Houston for Baylor...

I don't think they're close to competing for BigXII titles, but I think they're going to take a very big step forward under Briles with Griffinthere...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Central Florida cornerback Johnell Neal was injured during a shooting in his hometown of Baton Rouge, La.

His condition wasn't immediately clear, the university said. Coach George O'Leary said he spoke with Neal and the player's mother.

A phone message left with Baton Rouge police was not immediately returned Friday.

Neal graduated from UCF last week and was expected to start work on another bachelor's degree this summer.

Well, Dirk's Man-love (NH) for BLAKE Griffin turned out well.

Let's see what happens w/ Robert.

Nick Montana down to 7 schools.
Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford and Washington.

We really missed out on him here at UH, the offense would have been even so more dynamic with him......big fan of Griffin out there in Waco.

Dean Looking into Transferring

UCLA has signed paperwork that will allow Aundre Dean, the sophomore tailback, to look into transferring.
It doesn't mean, necessarily, that he will transfer, but that he's exploring options.

Dean is currently still in school at UCLA, and intends to finish out the school year.

There has been rampant speculation that Dean could transfer after he came to UCLA as a highly-touted prospect from Katy (Tex.) High but didn't crack the rotation last season as a freshman.

where is dean planning on transfering to??? correct me if im wrong but didn't he not have any impact at all this past yr???? is he talented enough to makea name for himself???

don't know yet, but he just got cleared by the university to transfer if he wants

I wonder if he'll stay in the pac

Dean was 5th on the depth chart. Great talent but struggles w/ pass blocking and picking up blitzes. If he does transfer i think it'll be FCS orsomewhere in the midwest....

Paige opts to turn the page and leave Tennessee
Paige opts to turn the page and leave Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - An offseason that has seen plenty of attrition for the Tennessee football program saw more activity Monday with sophomore receiver Ahmad Paige announcing that he's transferring from the program now that the spring semester is over.

Paige, from Sterlington, La., arrived in Knoxville as a heralded prospect as part of a consensus top-five national recruiting class in 2007.

After two full years in the program and a spring practice under the new coaching staff, Paige had yet to secure a place in the receiver rotation.

Ahmad Paige couldn't grab a spot in the Vols' rotation at receiver.
"It's true, I'm leaving," Paige confirmed on Monday afternoon. "It's not anything negative as far as me and Tennessee or the new coaches. Playing time is part of it, but I really just feel like I need a new start. I've already spoken to Coach [Lane] Kiffin and we left everything on really good terms.

"I'm sad it didn't work out for me here, but I'm excited about getting a new start somewhere."

Paige acknowledged the prospects of playing time factored into his decision, but he's also dealt with more than his share of real-life tragedy.

"I've had some bad luck since I've been here, off the field more than on it," Paige said. "Playing time is part of it, but I really feel like I just need a change of scenery for my life and start over."

Paige, who redshirted in 2007 and didn't appear in a game last fall, never materialized into the playmaker he or Tennessee fans envisioned when the Vols won a fierce recruiting battle with USC to land him on National Signing Day.

Off the field and in the locker room, though, he was a popular figure - as much with the coaching staff as with the players.

"We had a good talk and everything was positive," Paige said of his final conversation with Kiffin. "He told me that he would release me without any restrictions because he felt like I was a good guy, didn't have any problems with academics or anything.

"He told me he'd help me find another school and that he was ready to give any coach who called him and asked about me a positive review. I don't have anything bad to say about Coach Kiffin or me leaving. Things just didn't work out for a lot of different reasons."

Paige becomes the ninth player to either voluntarily leave or be dismissed from the program since Kiffin arrived on the job in December.

If he can stay Healthy, He will be be an excellent addition.
FSU yall better place some calls and get him to T Town. for 2010 season
