I could be totally wrong, but I don't think they can use the leftover amount. I think it's a one time use.


Fortunately, the Celtics aren't necessarily done adding long term. They'll still have approximately $11 million of the Hayward trade exception to use this summer along with their draft picks.

I think they created another $5M one with Theis too. And if they sign and trade Fournier in the Summer, another one.
 
What is up with all these buyouts? Do players take a paycut just to get “cut” and are able to sign with another team?

essentially, the player and team will agree on how much that player is willing to give up
they then place player on waivers. if another team claims that player, they are picking up the existing contract
if not, he become unrestricted FA and can sign anywhere

most of the time these guys have huge contracts. don't see a team claiming or even have room for LMA
