That awkward moment you realise that Shaw is more expensive than Danilo

still an absurd ammount for a back up
An out of shape back up at that

At the time, the thinking was probably something like:

he's English = 30M

has/had pace = 5M

overall price = 35M

Seems like they're about to do the exact same with Clyne this summer

,I've read that they'd be willing to offer Chicha as part of the deal...

Fabricio from Internacional (Brasil) gets booed during a game by his own fans, felt he's had enough and then flips off the fans gets a red card, take off his jersey and throws it and steps on it. He hasn't had such a good season and the fans have been going at it for a while.

The disrespect of stepping on the jersey though

Does anyone know of any good footy books that talk about strategy in the game? modern and/or past? Dutch total football and the resurgence brought back by Pep's Barca? Decline of the 3-5-2 and what not. I spent a brief 20 minutes in Barnes & Noble and came across a few but didn't know where to start.

I think the tome you'd want to start with is Inverting The Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson. I don't think it will answer the answers to your specific questions directly but once you've finished the book, you should have insight into those questions to answer them yourself.

Although not geared towards what you're looking for, I'd also highly recommend these 2 books -

1. Brilliant Orange by David Winner. It's a book about Dutch football without trying to be one (if that makes sense). It links idea of football to art, architecture, culture, politics, & philosophy. I really enjoyed this because of the way it was written. It's not meant to be about the history of Dutch football.

2. Pep Confidential: The Inside Story of Pep Guardiola’s First Season at Bayern Munich. A complete behind the scenes look at Pep's first year at Bayern. I was really surprised at how much access the writer was given behind the scenes during this time. Loaded with tactical info too.

Both of these books were ones where I could not put down...

Hope this helps.

This really.....REALLY pisses me off. :{

Whose going to be a backup SOLEMAN? Are you talking about Danilo?

Wow @ Tevez's resume. That is a heck of a resume. It's a shame that he was left off Argentina's 30-man World Cup roster.

Mourinho claimed no surgery needed for Costa. Looks like Costa still struggling with hamstring.

Damn psk I was just trying to post broad examples and you give me exact books on each of them haha. Thanks though I'll get to it

Inverted Pyramid is a loong read... There is another book where the first 3 chapters broadly explain what Inverted Pyramid explains but I can't for the life of me remember what the title of the book is.

Brilliant Orange & Pep Confidential were fast reads. I really enjoyed reading them too. I've recommended these books before either in this thread or the one from last year.

He's won just about everything there is to win :x :hat

And I feel like if hes on the WC squad he finishes one of those chances that Higuain/Palacios missed and Argentina potentially walks away with the cup.

That's the overwhelming sentiment in Argentina. Everyone feels like he would've given us the striking power we lacked in the later rounds of the Cup.

Why has he been getting snubbed for the Argentina NT over the years? I also agree that they would have had a much better shot with him on last years WC squad.

Most of the Argentine pundits blame Messi for Tevez not making the squad. Rumors say Messi doesn't like him but I think the real reason is that Tevez has an ego that makes it hard for him to play a supporting role effectively (to Messi).

I think the issue had more to do with managers that weren't capable of finding the right balance for Tevez to fit in & lacked true man management experience. Sabella had loads of experience but not sure he was really up to the job of managing personalities of that magnitude. I don't think Sabella felt like dealing with it.

Tata seems much more down to earth & more accepting of personalities & figures out ways to fit people in.

:lol Tevez was even quoted as saying he kinda understood the snubs saying something like he knows it would be difficult to leave him on the bench.
