What I don't understand is that he says with Rooney up front there leaves a problem in the midfield. So you're trying to tell me that with options such as Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Di Maria who are all capable of playing in the midfield will not be successful?

What kills me is that he admits that Rooney is probably his best striker but he says he'll stay in midfield

The issue is that technically Rooney is better than all of those midfielders defensively, except for Herrera. All of them are too attack minded. Rooney provides a but more balance.
