Don't find this surprising at all. Pretty much is the same as this picture from NASA which just shows how the more urbanized places will obviously havemore population which would result in more McDonalds.

Also I have 25 McDonalds within a 10 mile radius of my house. Not exaggerating either.
 
within 5 minutes driving distance, there's an arbys, mcdonalds, carls jr, quiznos, jackinthebox, in-n-out, burger king, and more...

I've never been to a country that didn't have McDonalds all over the place. No matter where I travel, I know if the local food sucks, there'salways some unhealthy +$! McDonalds to remind me of home!

Trust me when you're on this side of the country, there's always a McDonald's nearby. I have like 3 McDonalds's within 4 miles of my house.
