Your Next Vacation Destination.....?

Going to New Orleans for about a week. Already set up a quick bus tour and a plantation tour for me and the wife. Planning on doing a bar crawl around Frenchmen St and spending a day around City Park. Any other suggestions to visit or places to eat?

Ireland was so dope!! Pubs and castles galore. Only regret I have is that I wish we would have done some ocean stuff. A fishing trip or a ferry tour would have been super fun.

I only remember the names of Kylemore Castle, Kilkenny and Dublin Castle but we explored like 10 different ones. Went to a pub that has been in operation since 300 years before Columbus discovered the americas :eek

Went to Trinity college and saw that old library and the book of Kells. Explored Galway, Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Kilkenny, and a bunch of countryside towns I can’t remember the name. A couple live shows. Toured the Guinness factory. Got drunk every night at random pubs and clubs.

**Big tip for drinkers: THEY DO NOT HAVE GRAPEFRUIT JUICE in the entire country. Do NOT ask for a gin & grapefruit juice at the bars. They’ll either laugh at you, or start bullying you/talking trash. Seriously, don’t do it. Also, they don’t know what a hot toddy is. You can order one but you gotta call it a hot whisky, and they’ll also make fun of you. One bartender told me “oooohhhh yeah we have that here….we call it a **** OFF!”

I went on a day trip to the Bahamas (Nassau), the resort life isn’t for me - you’re isolated from everything. Providing a comfort trap.

No access to anything culturally - not even the food. Just a bunch of overpriced Americanize food, activities, and scenery. They charge you more to go off the resort.

I get it - the tourism department and industry all work to keep tourist in these tourist traps. Everybody vacation differently; folks just wants to relax.

My ideal of vacation is to explore and submerge in the culture. I’ll do fun activities, too; surfing, scuba, rock climbing on certain days.

Stayed at the Rosewood Baha Mar

Baha Mar is a good time. When I went with my girl we hit up the rooftop bar there. Drake, Meek Mill and some others were there and they had it jumping. I’ve been a couple of times and it has that party vibe to it.

We went off the resort though for nightlife and got a real cultural experience. It’s easy to get trapped on the resort the entire time but I always make it a point to go where the locals are. I would’ve hated it had we stayed at the complex the whole time.

Dominican Republic resort life was dope. Could leave whenever we wanted to explore other towns.

Fast forward to Jamaica and it was a nightmare because they wouldn’t let foreign guests leave the resort property because of covid. THAT was awful. Resort food is horrible. No culture, just bland buffet food you would find in an off-strip Vegas casino. Weather and water activities were nice, but it gets old after 2 straight days.

Would only do a resort again if other travel was planned also

How do y'all navigate off the resort. I'd be spooked lowley

I don’t ever say on a resort - I’ve stayed on a resort maybe 3 times in my lifetime.

Most of the time, if you book/venture a way off the resort, they’re going to keep you in tourist trap areas. You’ll be okay going off if you have the resort plan your outing.

Funny you mention that. All places in the world - I have no interest and will never visit; Vegas. Atlantic City, and Miami.
