That's pretty much the definition of mainstream. "Most of the population" liking something = "mainstream."
I'm definitely guilty of this though...I'm much lazier as far as finding good underground music than I used to be.
I have no clue what my album of the year is. Chester French maybe?
Honestly 2008's music has carried me for the first 4+ months of 2009.

Although Padded Room, Crime Pays, Relapse, and couple other albums were good or really good they were overall disappointments to me. Oh and I will admit Ihaven't been up on my R&B in a long time.
