There are three categories of extras that these codes offer. The first are
Grimoire Cards, virtual trading cards that feature artwork on one side and information about the game's story on the other. For example, the "Warlock" card tells you a bit about that character class. Players can also earn Grimoire Cards through completing missions in
Destiny.
The codes also unlock shaders and emblems. Shaders change the color of your Guardian's equipment to give him or her a little individuality. Emblems are backgrounds for your character's nameplate. Again, there's no effect on your character's actual capabilities.

You can redeem these codes through
Destiny's website. You'll need to sign in with either your Xbox Live, PSN, Google or Facebook account. No matter which option you choose, you'll have to attach a Gamertag or PSN ID to your account to get the extras associated with these codes.
Grimoire Cards will be automatically applied to all platforms you have linked to your Bungie account. Emblems and Shaders must be picked up in
Destiny at the Tower. The items are offered by Tess Everis, the Special Orders vendor. She's the blue lady with short white hair on the west side of the Plaza. Here's a close-up of Tess:
