Basically-

Got a ticket for running a stop sign (I California rolled, I've seen cops do it just like I did it that night)

Didn't pay the ticket (Had no time and was trying to get the money. Also didn't know that I could pay over the phone or online. $236)

Got a letter in the mail today saying that I missed my date so now they tacked on $300 and have suspended my Driver's License.

I have 15 days to pay this debt or they will make further penalties.

I have 180, and I'm trying to sell a pair of Jordans to get some more money towards it.. but I don't know when I'll have that money.

I'm hoping that they'll be able to give me some sort of payment method where I pay in small payments.. if not then I am royally @#$%$#%.

Any NTers have any words of advice on HOW TO HANDLE THIS instead of just sarcastic comments on how I am irresponsible or anything?

Best bet is to borrow the money from someone and pay them back.  Courts do not play nor care to help you out with any financial debt owed to them.  At least you can pay a friend/family member back in increments.

If he missed his original court date to contest the ticket, you cannot appeal.

You can appeal parking tickets, but moving violations you are given a court date or otherwise you pay in advance online and that is  admitting one's guilt.

you dun goofed.

smh @ you refrecing the cops. They do whatevr the hell they want. dont mean you can.

you are full of excuses.  maybe you should learn to have more than 180 dollars in the bank for unexpected things like this.

just go to walk in court plead no contest automatic reduction and they will unsuspend the license. the $300 that they tacked on is for the failure to appear and u can stilll get ur license without paying that separate $300 fine

AND
you can ask for traffic school so that you dont have any points

and why do people feel like they can do what a cop car does? humans are humansprofessions are different.

I've seen cops do it just like I did it that night)  < lost

Borrow money or go in front of the judge and say you want to do community service.  If you don't have a J-O-B, might as well have something to do during the day/night.  I think the service rate is minimum wage, so divide the amount due with minimum wage rate and that is how many hours of community service you will have to do.
BTW- You goofed, screwed the pooch, etc.  Could've called, got an extension, etc.

You F'up OP. You should have payed the moment they sent you that bill. The Law don't give a single damn about your situation. Just getting your money.

I'm 18 and my parents won't help me out so that won't work. I have a job but struggling with hours and am getting an interview at a second place tomorrow that will give me good hours. Lesson here is learned, and moving on is in process. That's all that matters at this point.

As for the ticket, I am on a payment plan of at least 50 dollars a month and my license is un-suspended.

To everyone else, thanks for the million comments that said "Cops can do whatever they want" and "It's all your fault". You don't say? Next you're going to tell me that I need to get this taken care of.

I literally wasn't aware that I could pay over the phone or online, and was trying to find a way out to pay for it but got caught up in family issues, car issues, not to mention living from paycheck to paycheck on food alone.

Excuses my hairy #$$. Trust me, if I knew all of this, I would've payed it as soon as I had that money in hand instead of feeding myself.

Also, in the title i say i got screwed because $300 dollars for missing a date is absolutely ridiculous for a minor traffic ticket. That's more than my ACTUAL TICKET WAS.

Oh well, I got it all settled and will be done with it soon enough.

You didnt get screwed, you're irresponsible.

The actual ticket tells you when to pay. Then the city sends you a letter with ALL THE INFO ON IT. Including when its due and if you need more time, you can extend your due date.

You've ignored all warnings, now you gotta pay. Try to see if you can get an extension or a hearing date to get an extension. Tell the judge you live on your own and struggling. Maybe he'll let you go with Community Service.

the state of ca is broke as hell......ur fault for not being on top of it bro, lemme give u sum real adivce tho, get a savings account that u won't touch, spend the next yr putting a hundred a month in it.......its called an emergency fund....do not use it for anything......except incidentals like speeding tickets, dental bills, etc.......i been doing that since i was 16, im now 28, minus the time i was in the pen i've always put a hundo in it every month.....follow my advice and when ur 30 send me a pair of jordans as a thank u.........j/k on the last part.....and dont think im talking down to u, ive paid plenty of money to the courts......they dont care if ur homeless, they want there money plain and simple.....and no u cant do community service, not in the great state of Ca.......

If only the State of California sent you a piece of paper with all that information....
