WHY IS AMERICA SO FAT?

Ever since I ve been back from Iraq I ve been eating out and drinking like a fish.I know I gotta be over 260 now.

Don't blame food, blame the attitude of the ******ed consumer. It's not like McDonald's has been around for only 15 years, or something. When a kidate McDonald's in the '70s, they came home and ran around the yard because there were no video games, computers, internet, etc. to sit on their %@! andplay with. there were four TV channels so that was hardly an option. Blaming food is the last thing people should be doing. Fast food has been around longenough for people to stop blaming it. Take some responsibility for yourselves, you ******s, and stop blaming other people for your problems.

Anybody ever look at the back of a food container at the ingredients?

Well one reason is all the artificial flavoring and numerous amounts of preservatives.

Buying fresh food and eating at home is prob one of the best things you could do for yourself. Also avoid soda like a plague. Not only is it bad for yourteeth, but all the sugar is bad for your body.

Also people are sleep deprived. When you don't get enough sleep on a consistant cycle it is detrimental to you mentally and physically.

Portions of food being served in America is ridiculously too much. Not to mention, foods in America are either too sweet or two salty compare to othercountries.

Americans aren't as mobile because we rely so much on cars. Big cities might beg differ but most of places in America, we drive just about EVERYWHERE.
You hardly see anybody actually walk to supermarket, for god's sake, I saw so many people waiting for a parking spot to open at gym's parking lot sothey can park 'CLOSER' to the gym while they got tons of spot far (but it ain't like miles away) away from the building.

When it comes down to it, though, you need to move your +$@ and feet once in a while...how many times do you see kids playing outside nowadays? It's prettyseldom.

i think it is due to ignorance when it comes to nutrition
if people knew what was good for them then i think they would make the rational choice and what is best for them
but they dont know

It's fat because people don't get out and excercise. Instead of cooking their own meals, people settle for eating at fast food restaurants.

We don't have two-story McDonald's for nothing

I agree with this man.

Ever been to England or Australia?

not only is it technologies and fast foods fault..

but its also the media.. i mean there's food commercials on all the time..

plus no one really cares.. eating healthy..supplements... joining martial arts, gym , boxing cost money to..

and some kids just straight dont like to play sports...or go outside for that matter.

i mean i see my friends eat mcdonalds daily i mean like 1200 calorie meals, and go grab a candy bar and a pack of cigs.. i just shake my head.

i mean me i am really health conscience. i eat 6 400 calorie meals a day, and for a dude 5"10 198 pounds that's a deficit ( im only 16 percent bodyfat)

not to mention i am a martial artist, football player and body builder.. exercise everyday and try to keep my self active.

Definitely true. But I mean, you can also just do it old school and run around the block or play ball at the local park.

My gym membership isn't bad since I got it through Costco, $300 for 2 years. It breaks down to $12-13 a month, but tons of others are paying $30+ a month. When I was taking Muay Thai, that was $100 a month and it was a bargain compared to other upscale Muay Thai places. I looked into taking BJJ too, andthat's $150-200 a month. If you add just those two martial arts, that's a car payment for someone right there.

I'm no health freak where I write down what I eat daily and make foods in advance. However, I do use common sense and cut out the fried food and fastfood. When I'm at school, I just eat steam rice with salmon or chicken breast. If I want a burger, I'll eat one, but I'll skip the fries mostlikely. Once a month or so I'll go out with mom for a decent meal though, ie tri tip, fries, and sweet potato. But I don't do it daily. And when Iorder pizza, I'll opt out for the veggie lover with no cheese...it may sounds boring, but it tastes really good!

I feel bloated just looking at folks gulp down 1500 cal meals from the local Mickey D's. People think $1 burger is a deal, but they're paying it withtheir price eating that lard.

It goes back to heritages, and cultures that capital took advantage of the "boiling pot". Our workdays genarally are limited enough to make money offof fast-food alone.

Main reason why america is so fat, is due to all these people complaining about the fast food industry, but really it's just all because of them, you cango on and complain about, "oh they place fast food in urban areas" but the truth is that everyone has a choice, and you choose if you are going tobuy that burger or go to the market and buy something healthier to buy or make your self, also the another reason why america is getting so fat is because noone wants to realize that they are not applying the physical activity they need to burn the amount of calories they are taking into their body, people have torealize that their body is like a machine and that, "you get what you put in!" Another thing that's helping in the fattening of america is allthese budgets cuts with schools..and guess what the first thing states believe that are not important to kids is PHYSICAL EDUCATION programs!

Well fast foods thrive in the down economy, so it is only going to get worse. I go out to lunch every day, I can be full from a fast food joint for 3 bucks, orgo to Panera/sandwich place and pay 6-8 bucks. Not hard to figure out which is easier on the wallet. Plus, like people said, portions/excercise/video games/all play a part. I can't help but think of Mike Gundy...."FAT!!!!"

Subway footlong for $5! I know it's high in sodium, but it's better than your typical burger and fries at least.

wj4, your right Subway is the only "good" option I can find for 5 bucks or less.

This is why dodgeball needs to be implemented in Phys Ed. classes again. Kids these days is too soft and get babied. Make those tubby lards of fat sweat that chicken grease out by running.
