Why does J Cole think hiding is gonna be good for his career?? Vol Milk Carton overdue

Internet ****** up the way people consume music.

It has indeed......I just figure people would rather have quality over quantity. Thats what I prefer and J. Cole delivers quality. This Cole is irrelevant talk is non-sense. What good is putting out music all the time if its not good?! Quality should factor in an artists relevance IMO.

Drake winning then.

The whole relevance thing kills me like to who cares how relevant a dude is if the music is good?

Cause

Underground artists ain't poppin, and they got the best music...

In hip-hop: Names >>> Material (Music)

They don't promote club appearances to see the artist perform a song

They just wanna see the artist

Cole knows what he doing, do a feature or two in a year then when the album gets ready to drop release cuts from the album that didn't make the final cut and then drop the album and go back to being quiet that way you don't oversaturate the market and decrease your value as an artist

j.cole should put himself out there more

rap fans are very fickle

he's one of the best who's come up in the past 10 years but his name needs to be out there

anyone saying that "drop album then disappear" tactic is working OR acceptable has no knowledge of the music industry nor the people who actually consume music nowadays. Youve gotta stay relevant. period. I take it we all like j cole and love his music. Great. Then if you like cole, you should want him to do as good as he can, not just good enough. Hes doing good enough when an album drops. He should be winning year round. He should be going at drake's neck (for supremacy) and kendricks throat.

The saying in the industry is, you're only as good as your last hit. What was that for cole? Power trip? Crooked smile? He tried to let she knows be a single and what happened? FLOP. Im not the type of fan that wants his music to be just for me. personally, i want cole and kendrick to wipe drake off the face of music or force him to step up since hes on top. But as long as cole is in ninja mode, his popularity ONLY declines. the desire for his music peaks...then fades away too. Thats just how it goes for people who arent hardcore fans. I want more for him than just HARDCORE fans. Hes a nice genuine dude. But we all know Jay Z aint helping him do **** so he needs to reevaluate his marketing/brand

headed to work but I gotta get a comment in on this....

Big Cole fan and I like others have already said, believe his plan is working for him.

You have Drake who is rightfully in the fore front and then Kendrick Lamar who struck like lightening (Like almost all of Dr. Dre's artists)

and then there is Cole... who at the end of the day is truly sustaining his career off his name alone. Out of all the newcomers he is in the best position while executing the ghost strategy.

Who is likely to lap him?

Wiz? Big Sean?

Its a marathon... what happens if Kendrick drops a dud and Cole third album is classic? Then he is right back in that top spot convo... and then you know the fickle masses may start to give drake that "he's to commercial" treatment anyday know after his win streak stretches too far

hmmm he used that migos flow. and beyond that, it aint about his lyrics... its about how many people know this exist? and thats the point.
Don't listen to Migos, nor do I care who they are.
I liked his bars and I'm a fan of his...
So I don't question his relevancy or musical output, just like K.Dot.
So when he drops new music on HIS time, I'll be ready...
No argument from me, just stating I liked those bars...

660,000..

Not bad..
any radio spins? we got hardcore cole fans in HERE who dont know bout this song nor made bail. whatever, yall dont wanna see it. if you want better for cole, you'd want him to have more exposure. its simple as that. there is no conceivable way that less exposure will further his career or boost sales or popularity. now im not saying OVERexposure is good, cuz its not. but on a scale of 1-10, cole is literally a 3 on exposure right now.

and btw, 660,000? that is not good for an artist with as much hype behind him as cole. artists like future and migos pass a mill in the first week on youtube. 660k is a good number for an unsigned artist on the comeup. factor that in with its not even just his fans responsible for that, its his fans AND asap rockys AND pusha Ts! On a justin timberlake track!? between all 3 of em, 660k?

Who said less exposure is going to help him. It would be good but where is that exposure going to come from. MTV and BET don't play videos. He doesn't make typical radio records so radio doesn't play his records until his album comes out.Asap gets exposure because of how he dresses, future gets exposure because he got ciara pregnant and drake makes blatant radio songs. Migos and future may have more hits but who's checking for their albums. Migos put out a ******** single that was catchy two years ago and they still don't have a album out yet. J. cole's puts out a single when he wants and regardless of how the single does he releases a album and does 200k in the first week. That's the career you want. Jay-z has only one number #1 single but 13 #1 albums. I'd take J. coles career over asap, wiz, migos, future's career any day. You're trying to apply that old typical business model based on numbers to non-typical artist. Kendrick's situation is similar.

im literally done responding to anyone believing coles level of exposure right now is acceptable. music is literally my business and livelihood. i majored in marketing to partner with the behind the scenes portion of music. ive met cole personally twice in the studio. if you dont agree. so be it. im over arguing with people who just dont understand lol.

and for future reference, cole has dropped 2 albums. that is not enough to establish a track record of how much his albums sell everytime he drops. no im not looking at it from a numbers only perspective. im looking at it from a "im a fan who wants to see one of my favorite artists go to the top instead of be happy hovering somewhere in the top 10" perspective.

Nobody is denying that cole needs more exposure.

I think it's already been decided behind closed doors on a business level that Cole won't be a superstar rapper 10 years from now going strong so it don't matter if he goes through these bouts of disappearing anymore. At this point make the best of his situation.

i think youre right. but i ask why? why does he choose to not put himself at that level? like i said before i know jay z aint helping out but jeez...cole got the name and fan base to push himself if he wanted to.

I call BS on all of this...

Cole has been around 5 years now....and he may not be a "superstar" but he is the most successful new rapper after Drake, Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar. Does he have as much relevance in the mainstream, no. But is the mainstream the reason he is were he is now, or is it a loyal fanbase?

To not be relevant...he has albums that have outsold Rick Ross and Kanye West. His albums have outsold every other new rapper who subscribes to your idea of "exposure" and to top it off he doesnt even make MAINSTREAM Music. And I get it... its not just about sales... its about being on peoples minds too right, but I think u guys are ignoring the larger scope of things.

How many rappers are truly relevant and have sustained that interest for a significant amount of time? Its less than 10 right now.

I, like all other fans want to see dude win and be at the top but at the same time...why cant it be done on his terms? After two albums...What happened with Jay-Z? Vol 2 right?...and the rest is history

and to be honest... for Cole to be a traditional "superstar", it will have to be a 180... most of dudes appeal as that he just a normal guy, its only so far the media can push that. His status may not scream superstar but it can make for longevity and quality music... look at Nas.

Main thing that frustrates me about Cole is his Twitter hiatus. I have seen the interviews about why he doesn't tweet but damn, dude tweets like once a month and it's to promote Bas or a tour. It wouldn't hurt to interact with his fans on twitter a couples times per week. I'm not asking for him to be like Wale with his Twitter game, but I know he has free time every now and then where he could just take about 10 questions or so. He did that once a few months back and a fan asked him what happened to the song Wet Dreams and that's something I had been wondering also so it was good to see that he hadn't completely forgot about it. I used to enjoy the "colestreams" that he would do on Ustream from time to time also.

I can tolerate the rate at which he puts out music cause when he does drop something like Truly Yours, everybody goes crazy. A few more features would be cool though. Let's face it, we can forget about getting that Cole and Kendrick joint album regardless of what they say. It's not happening. They should just go ahead and release whatever they have so far...when the timing is right of course.

Ace great post and I cp-sign everything you said. You are 100% right.....the analogy to Nas is a great one.

I don't understand why anyone cares either about how much Cole tweets. The way I look at it is dude tweets when he has information to share and thats it....what else do you need to know from him??
