Nobody is saying that every single last one of Black Cobain's followers are paid for. But his movement is not 100% organic. It takes money to make money in rap. Followers, download #'s, etc. are often exaggerated to give off the appearance of popularity. You can run throughout Twitter and find local rappers that aren't even buzzing in their respective cities that have 50K+ followers. Black Cobain has a fan base...but it's LAUGHABLE for you to sit up and try to say that's it's even comparable to Trel's. Due to his connection with Wale, he has the budget to start ushering himself into national media. Like the XXL Freshman nomination (do you think for one second that his own "movement" got him that?)


Please...go find me ONE show that Black Cobain has been featured in and Wale wasn't there. Local or non-local. I'll wait. Fat Trel is gaining national recognition. He's in the booth with guys like Lex Luger, Lil Lody, etc. Guys with MAJOR credits in the business. He's linking with major artists on the come up like ASAP, Keef, etc. He can get booked for a show out of his hometown and have people come to it and know the words to his songs. He's getting brought out by non local artists during their sets to perform his songs. He has a legit fan base w/o being Wale's hypeman.

So again...are you seriously about to sit up and tell me that Black Cobain is on the same level as Fat Trel when we're talking popularity?

I was actually at this show and that's when i started listening to Black. This was around the Now mixtape. Also, while I do agree that Fat Trel has more of a following than Black (especially in the city). The difference isn't as great as it once was. Black seems to appeal to the outer regions of the DC Metro area with a heavy concentration in VA (obviously). I believe the same is true with Phil Ade (with his concentration of fans being in MD, obviously again).

While we're on the topic, Trel has a show in NYC on the 14th at Santos - the small stage downstairs though. Cobain also performs without Wale in June some time in NYC as well...forget the date/venue off the top of my head.

Only being listened to locally is considered local. Plenty of no name dudes been on mtv, and plenty of them worked with well known producers. Son never popped outside of the DMV and is already on the decline, while people who never even heard the term DMV recognize Black Cobain as someone coming up. Not saying the dude on the road to stardom or anything like that, but as of right now he is on a much better path than Fat Trel. I'm sure you have a few relatives who live outside of your block. Call them up (If they into hip hop) and mention both. Tally up your stats and check your results
