Two HTC Nexus phones coming this year, rumor claims

Last year for the first time ever Google launched two Nexus smartphones at the same time - the LG-made Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P. And this manner of going with both a more mainstream size as well as a phablet for the Nexus line might be the new trend - one that Google is said to repeat in 2016.

According to a new and unconfirmed rumor out of China, we shall once again see two Nexuses hitting the streets this year. One of them will have a 5-inch screen, while the other will get a 5.5-inch display. If true, this would represent an odd move for the mobile world, where handsets generally get bigger from year to year, not smaller (the Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch panel, while the 6P has a 5.7" screen). Then again, the original Nexus 6 from Motorola had a 6" display and that was shrinked in its successor, so anything is possible.

What might be more shocking is what company is said to be manufacturing both 2016 Nexuses: HTC. The Taiwanese smartphone maker has been in trouble, sales-wise, for many, many months now, and it probably hopes that this move will get it into the spotlight for the right reasons once more.

On the other hand, the analyst who is the source of this rumor is of the opinion that the two Nexuses will be too little to help HTC escape all of its problems. The Nexus 9 tablet from 2014 certainly wasn't the success HTC had hoped it would be.

Apparently Huawei was also in the running for producing this year's Nexuses, but the Chinese company lost out to HTC in the end. Obviously you should have taken all of this with a huge chunk of salt, because it comes from just one person. If there is any truth to this information, then expect to see it reiterated in the future.

I'd be cool with it as long as HTC isn't involved with any of the camera decisions :lol

Saw this the other day and dry heaved.

Google Play Music users,

I made a playlist on my phone, but it's not showing up on desktop. Actually, the created playlist shows up but on desktop it's empty.

Anyone know how to get around this issue?

Sometimes it has something to do w/ Google Play refreshing itself. It's weird like that sometimes. Make sure you are logged in w/ the same email and don't have your settings set to show "Download Only" content

What ever happened to that build your own phone project?

They're working on a new method of holding each of the components in place. They were using electropermanent magnets to hold the pieces, but they would fall apart when dropped.

Project Ara has been delayed, but I'm confident we'll see pilot tests done in emerging markets by the end of 2016.

It's going to be either Ara or the whatever new Nexus gets announced for me.

I really hate that Google didn't send those new Nexus phones to T-Mobile, I would have loved to get a 6p for a couple of months. Now Im sitting on a Nexus 5 until this new Galaxy drops, it's ridiculous

S7 & S7 Edge should be out in a month or two. You'll be alright.

love the comments for that article.

these "data cap exemptions" as Verizon calls it or "binge-on" for T-Mobile are ploys to give a big ^$^*% you to net neutrality and ways for these companies to squeeze out more money from both the consumer and the content provider.

I do understand it is a gray zone, as sponsored content is akin to cable TV (aka Satan) offering specific channels, but these rules need to be clarified and a strict line drawn between what is called internet access and what is advertising (or whatever else you want to call it).

or am I completely wrong on this?

You are 100% correct. The concern isn't the free/"premium" content today, the concern is what happens tomorrow when companies don't want to just give services away for free, and implications for people who come to rely on them in the mean time.
