^I did only because I want to use my buying power on another investment that's going to have a better payoff. I don't see the need to short apple.

Damn I haven't checked this in over a month. 4th is cool though. Edit: RidingLorenzos is a cheat. 870 trades? He's taken advantage of the lag on this non-pro service to nickle and dime his way to 2nd. 870 trades?

Thanks to everyone who participated, I wasn't as active as I would have liked to be but that's what happens with real life and the real market.  Quite a mix of performance, but no one did as bad as cguy610 who wiped his net worth completely on 1 trade.  As a reminder, you began w/ $25k.

Game officially closes tomorrow, here are the standings with about an hour left of trading today: (Net worth, Today's returns, Total Returns, # of trades)

Why would this matter? Day traders do this all the time.

Damn I completely missed this. This sounds like it would have been a lot of fun. Are you guys starting a new game this upcoming year?

Hank, to be honest, I have no clue....if you're cheating in a virtual game w/ no real money at stake...well, that speaks more about them than anything else.

I'm not aware of any way to cheat with this since it's straight automated, but who knows. I'm not accusing anyone of cheating, either.

MarketWatch sucks, there's gotta be better alternatives, but instead of waiting for DonnyWalkerBlack or whoever to actually launch a game, I just did it myself. I doubt I'll be the one to run something like this again, I have no time...would like to find a game w/ options, though.

There's just a considerable lag. I remember at times that there was a 15 minute wait. That's all I'm saying.

Market data may be subject to a 15 min lag like most services (versus real time)....I doubt they want to provide live/real time streaming data for a free "educational" game.
