Verizon making attempt to change the Internet as we know it.

I was thinking, I just read an article that this past year a record amount of customers have dropped their cable subscriptions. Which isnt surprising due to outlets such as Netflix and Hulu. For the first time ever this year I dont have cable. For less than 20 dollars a month I can just about get everything that cable provides with Hulu and Netflix. Everything else I find on the internet and watch on my TV via HDMI. Do you think companies will push for this due to this exact reason? For the stuff that Netflix, Hulu, ect. doesnt provide, these companies aren't naive that there are people like me who are putting stuff from the internet on their televisions. Nothing gets past them when there's money being lost.

They can do it if they want. U got other companies lickin their chops to take the top spot by not following suit w/ this crap. And if all the major carrier decide to do this, that is just gon open the door for Google and others who want into the wireless industry to be welcomed w/ open arms....

change the thread title to something more negative.

I came in here expecting something positive.

Why would bigger websites want to pay Verizon to have their content channeled solely through their network?

Just like the useless bloatware apps that are stuck on our phones that we can't delete. I'm sure they made a pretty penny from that..

You gotta jailbreak and/or root, my boy. Get rid of CarrierIQ while you're at it.

Verizon is the devil.

HEY WATCH YOUR MOUTH!!!

Lol

Refereeing pays for my sneaker addiction!

What a crock of ****

And it would be crooked *** verizon that's spearheading this bull.

ISP's have monopolies over the cables in specific areas. Think about it. How many options do you have? There's a cable provider, a DSL provider, & a satellite provider. You can't do anything in real time with a satellite based ISP, so that limits you to DSL & cable/fiber. Since DSL is pretty slow & inconsistent, most choose the faster cable/fiber option essentially giving Cox/Comcast/Verizon, etc. monopolies over the higher end of the market. That's why Google is trying to roll out their own ISP with 1Gbps speed so they can start controlling what gets through on their network.

Any way to make a dollar

Google and Yahoo will fight this tooth and nail. They live off of users searches, if suddenly people couldn't search without risking to be charged they'd be in deep ****. Any reduction in search ability just doesn't work for them.

I can't wait for Fiber to start marching into other parts of the country and kicking AT&T and Verizon's ***.

And of course their rivals, the fools they are, rather than pointing out the ludicrousness of it all will end up joining in.

First the Government wants to censor what we can see and do on the internet, and then certain corporations want us to pay for basic internet usage... This capitalistic/dictatorship model is getting out of hand.

As we've seen with SOPA, PIPA all the other legis, internet is one thing our generation fights for. Reddit, 4chan, bloggers, social networks that connect us, forums, hackers will not let this slide.
