Today I cut my VAIO on only to receive a green power light with a black screen. I call Sony support and they say it's the motherboard. Anyone else have problems with their VAIO out of nowhere.

Had something similar occur last year. My laptop suddenly stopped working.

Fortunately, I had an extended manufacturer's warranty. So I got my HD backed up on an external drive first, then sent it in to Sony. They basically had to rebuild the entire thing.

Under warranty?

In my past experience, Sony Tech Support is fairly helpful, considerate, and quick about mitigating the problem, as long as your laptop/computer is still covered under warranty.

nope i got it lie a year ago. the thing that makes me mad is I rarely use it.

Without warranty, next best option is a computer savvy friend or family member. Cheapest possible option before taking it to a computer shop/specialist. Going through Sony can be costly and a hassle without warranty.

Then you are boned...

a serious problem with the mother board is likely going to be prohibitively expensive like 600+, had my viaos mother board and screen replaced and I was quoted 800 bucks i got it for the low tho

You are better off buying a new computer.

yep...that's what I said I'm going to check out a few local shops if it's too high...macbook here I come

In my experience...Sony makes garbage laptops.

My sister bought a Vaio a few years ago,

Terrible experience, Never again. :x  :smh:

The battery life is terrible and the frame is garbage.

But like OKB said, It's expensive to fix it, Might as well get rid of it.

The frame really is terrible. When I brought it mine in to a local shop to save my HD, the technician mentioned that he's seen some Sony laptops constructed in part with cardboard.

Wow, a lot of Vaio hate. I have had a Vaio desktop since 2002 I believe and it started giving me trouble in 2011. Bought a Vaio laptop in 2010 and so far been really smooth. Nothing but good things for me so far. Sorry about the motherboard issue.

I have had mine for coming up on 4 years and another for 3 years. Not one problem.

I have heavy programs on both such as Autocad, Revit, 3ds-max and Adobe CS5 and they run like the first day I bought them. :\
