They raise it so we can drive less and rely on public transportation and use less gas. It worked so well it started hurting their pockets.

EF YOU DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Higher tolls
The new rates take effect July 1:

$2.50 Carpools, all bridges.

$5 All state bridges except the Bay Bridge.

$6 Bay Bridge during peak commute hours ($4 non-peak and $5 on weekends).

SMH! my dad drives out to Burlingame from Hayward to work all the time , I gotta tell him this in awhile

Why the #$+* is there a toll to begin with? Don't they use the tax dollars to build the damn bridges, and then we have to pay to cross them? FML

man now its pointless to wait til 3 to catch carpool or pass the bridge before 7. #%*@ this economy.

yup. its all messed up. i already know a silent revolution is gonna spark out of all this madness. within a couple years, the politicians are gonna get a rude awakening from the people in this nation. they keep finding loopholes in things to make the people shell out more money. unemployment is up (ca with the highest, 12%) and everyone is broke and they still wanna rape people for everything they got. i wish there was a reset button somewhere...

its stupid and at the same time they talkin bout raisin public transportation fees whether it be bart or whatever. driving or not they tryna find a way to get in our pockets.

Utterly ridiculous. Again, we're the ones whose take the brunt of this because of the mismanagement of California.

I just don't see the point in carpool anymore then aside from saving $3.50. I used to like taking carpool to the city because I wouldn't have to wait at the long ++$ bay bridge toll line. Now since you have to pay we can't just drive right through.

^^^thats so weak, and dnt you have to pay for the fasttrak transponder also??

^ No, at least I never did. I just have my credit card on file with them. I think the actual transponder is free. The price I think incurred initially may be to have it come w/ money on it - IE if its $20, then it'll have $20 on it for tolls right away.

Stop coming into the City if you can't afford it

Seriously.

The GG and Bay Bridge both require a TON of regular maintenance and repairs. All the time, for small wear and tear type things. Both bridges actually are a huge financial problem because they cost so much money. OF COURSE the fees will go up to compensate for those costs.

I know some of ya'll think this is the City messing up or that this is government crap; I know sometimes that's right. But the bridges are expensive and charging to cross it is a legitimate cost.

pfftt...more like state is broke so they just find ways to raise money.

^ You're right, huge bridges that carry thousands of cars of day across large expanses of water are free and cheap. Good call.
