but really the basic strategy chart helps. have been trying to memorize it. definitely helps at the tables

i'm not expert..but i do play..and here are some pointers

1) memorize the basic chart. know when to hit or stay.
2) the biggest chance of you hitting money is on the double downs and splits. know when to double and split.
3) IMO, playing on the higher stakes is better because majority of the players on the table know what they're doing. DO NOT SIT ON THE LAST SEAT if you don't know how to play. Sit on the first seat so you don't have to worry so much about the other players. PLEASE play for the table.
4) Play progressively. Sometimes you just have to man up and put down extra money. Keep playing the minimum and you'll most likely lose money.

just some basic pointers. im sure someone else here can offer better advice.

Edit: 5) don't be afraid to ask the dealer for help if you're unsure what to do.

REDUCE523,

you wouldnt double down on an 11 if the dealer is showing a 10 or face.

My dad taught me his progressive betting system and I have definitely benefited from it this year.

Basically say your bet is 1 unit. If you win the bet than your next play should be for 3 units because had you lost then hand you would have had to bet another unit to play. If you win the second hand, pull back at least your initial bet so your playing on house money. By doing this you can make money and if your hitting double downs and splits you can make a lot of money.

The feeling after going on a big run is so awesome.

The dealer is the weakest when they show a 5 or 6. So if possible get as many bets as possible onto the table when they have that hand. IE- double downs, splits, or even splits and double downs.

I personally always hit 16s. I've had more hands made hitting 16 than not hitting it and having the dealer or another player make their hand.

Stay patient and always set goals. If you bought in for $100 and get up to $300 total, get a black chip and put it away, continue to gamble on the winnings and walk away when you see fit. When I play I usually buy in for $250, if I get to the point where I can get a chip for $500 and still have enough funds to play with I always ask to color up.

But seriously, having a betting system and sticking to it is important. If you just play the minimums you won't make any money at all. You're already in a casino because you want to gamble and are willing to risk money for the opportunity to make it, so don't be afraid to bet it up.

not true.

you double on an 11 if the dealer shows a 10. Not vs an Ace.

go look at your basic strategy chart before you give advice.

Like retro said if you don't know the correct play ask the dealer! More often than not, they will tell you what the book says the play is. There's nothing more frustrating than when you someone before you made the wrong play that ends up costing the table.

I also try and play at $25 tables because it keeps the people away who don't take it seriously and will make ridiculous hits, plays, etc.

As for doubling on 11 every time I don't think you necessarily have to do it. I try and play it by feel. If I've been winning most of my double downs I'll bet it, but if I haven't than I won't.

like someone said...theres only 1 basic strategy and that is all u need to know. It's not gonna work out every time, but it is how you should technically play.
Try to play on a table with ppl that KNOWS how to play blackjack, too. Remember, you should never be playing alone, but instead, you should all play together! It's YOU GUYS against THE DEALER!
plus losing $70 is nothing...thats only like a couple of hands if you're on a bad shoe. BET BIG if you're on a roll. I remember the first time i played....I played with my last $15 on a $5 min table. I eventually brought that up to $100 by only betting $5-$10. A couple of shoes later, I'm up $300. My friends were telling me to bet more...in the $50's to $100's...but i didn't and I was not confident enough. I could have def won over 2 grand from those couple of chutes if I had bet BIG.

So...know the basic rules (when to double, split, which cards to hit/stay...etc). Play together with the ppl on the table! Bet big if you're on a hot streak!

hope i helped

I played blackjack like crazy in college.

1. ALWAYS get in on action. Double-downs and favorable splits are the only real ways to make money.

2. On a given night, you will hit one and only one hot shoe. Always pounce on the opportunity. Don't expect the rest of your night to go that way. Blackjack is quick money so get in and out.

3. If you want a table with experienced players that won't really screw up the flow of the cards, stay away from the cheap tables...filled with first-timers.

4. Double all your 11s.

5. Double your 10s if the dealer is showing 9 and under.

6. Heck, if you really want to win money, double anything 7-11 against a lower card (9 against a 7or 8 )

7. If you have an opportunity to improve your hand, do it. I always hit a soft 8 against a 7. Split 9s against an 8.

8. Betting minimum will get you nowhere. The dealer has the advantage so you want to maximize your winning hands.

9. Don't be afraid to leave a table...but don't come in and out of hands.

10. Play for the table? No...play for YOURSELF.

11. Always assume the dealer is hiding a 10. You have to hit your 15/16 against a dealer's 7. If you're playing heads up, you can do whatever you wish.

12. Don't think in terms of how much money you're starting with, but how many hands you're allowing yourself to play. $100 is a lot but it's nothing in blackjack.

13. Be disciplined. Hard to do, but don't play as if you're entitled to they money you envision yourself winning.

My methods aren't the "safe" methods, but ways to maximize your money. I don't even remember how much i'm up, but my blackjack winnings put good food on my table and took care of my sneaker fix, car maintenance, and tons of other expenses while having money left over on the side.
